Hi. We travel in the summer. Need to purchase a new bike rack to hold 4 Adult Trek Bikes. Any one recommend a sturdy one that will be safe for the Rubicon? Wont rub the paint off it? Do we need to take off spare tire? Do I need to buy some parts to attach it to the Jeep. We traveled with the Sequoia. So a little different. No spare tire in the way. Thank you.

Please post Pictures, so I can see how you have them set up.

One that is on my shortlist is this rack from Saris, the Freedom 4 Bike Tray Hitch Rack. I think Yakima and Thule have similar racks, but they're crazy money.

I've got another one of their 4 bike racks that we've had for years and that's a different style (two posts that protrude and the bikes rest on the their crosstube). We used this one hauling 3 bikes cross country from Chicago to Pennsylvania and back.

Currently the Saris is the only one I'm looking at. I've been happy with the quality of the Saris hanging rack we're currently using, however just looking at moving away from a hanging rack as it's a bit of pain to load or unload bikes.

Looking at the images it appears there should not be a problem with spare tire clearance, though I'd suggest calling them to confirm if it's a concern. If it's anything like the hanging rack it sticks out just far enough to clear the spare with a 2 gallon Rotopax water can mounted to the bike rack.
