Nav on 7 inch screen?

Yes. 7.0 is only Apple Car Play/Android Auto which is better for nav anyway. Downside is no nav when you are in areas without cell service.

I use sygic when I have no signal. There are other downloadable navigation apps

The plus side is if you know you will be going somewhere without cell service, you could load Gaia GPS onto your phone, download offline map areas and use Gaia with apple carplay.

Yes, $2k is steep when you can get a Garmin with lifetime maps for $90.
I do like android auto with Google maps though, works great on the 7".

It is steep. CarPlay or Android Auto w/ your choice of phone app are 10x better, 10x cheaper and work fine on the 7". You'd probably use them anyway if you had the 8.4". I wouldn't sweat it at all.

I use android auto and Gaia on 7in screen in 2019 and 2021 JLU. The Nav functions work great and Gaia will let you download maps for when there isn't coverage. The only downside is when I use android auto with google maps the stored favorite phone contacts in uconnect get deleted from uconnect. Local dealer says engineers are aware of the problem and working on a software fix. I'm not holding my breath waiting for that to happen!

Personally I wouldn't buy a Jeep without the 8.4" screen now that I've owned one of them (well, 4 of them actually).

Google Maps lets you download offline maps - as long as you know where you're going first Other navigation tools probably let you do the same thing. I would never pay extra for factory navigation because every one I've had previously has been steaming dog ****.

Our 2017 JGC has the 8.4 with nav (no carplay / AA). The nav isn't bad, it was a dealer throw in.

The wrangler has the 7.0 with carplay and AA. So far I've found AA to be better then the Kenwood that was in my 4Runner.

That said, when I was on vacation (last year with the 4Runner), I found myself using my old Garmin (lifetime maps), when I was out of cell phone coverage (Grand Tetons & Yellowstone). My choice would be AA, maybe a Garmin or TomTom for a backup.

I've owned two JL models. One had the 7 and the other the 8.4 inch screen. I like the 8.4 inch screen, the built in nav is OK, but I prefer using CarPlay.

The built-in navigation in the Wrangler is actually quite good, but the problem is you've gotta shell out cash for map updates. Buying the latest maps doesn't guarantee they're actually updated, either. Map data is organized by third parties and purchasing the latest update still leaves you YEARS behind.
