My Air Compressor Kit

Good afternoon,


When I got my Smittybuilt air compressor I knew there was a few things that I needed to change right away. 1st thing was to get rid of the flimsy bag that it came with and decided to put it in a tool box. I spent few weeks looking around the web for a big enough tool box that was strong and not too expensive. The second thing I need to do was change the fittings from the Chinese fitting it came with and make them standard. Here is a list of things I used with links.

This is interesting, I just bought that compressor a few weeks ago to use on a trip. It works well, the fittings are cheesy and switching them is a good idea.

It was easy to switch out, I used it every day at the beach going from 20 psi to 36 psi on stock JLUR tires it used took about 7-10 minutes from time of setup to finishing 4 th tire.

Do you have deflators? I think that is my next purchase.
Last we did air down/air up about 5 times. I learned that I could time the deflating with my watch and get close, but this wasn't accurate and over time I had a few tires that were farther away and when airing up using my watch I would end up below 36. Deflators would help to keep things uniform.
I just saw another thread where someone created a manifold of 4 hoses so they could air up all tires at the same time, to the same pressure. This might be a lot of stuff to carry but it would also be convenient.
Another thought I had- using the pump like I did it would be convenient to have a hand-held switch that I could carry from tire to tire.
More things to think about before my next trip in 6 weeks or so.

RE: Deflators: I’ve done a lot of research and it seems that the low priced ones are pretty useless, so I went with the ones linked below. Arriving Sunday so I will be doing some testing to see how they perform. Easy return if they don’t live up to their reputation.

I just used the inflator that came with the kit and left the hose off. It was easy to pull the trigger and release the air, I would just release trigger to check the pressure. I found that the gauge was within 1psi then what the system read.

Yes that’s basically what I have done in the past but that’s time consuming. I want something I can just screw into each tire that will take them to the desired pressure all at the same time.

I had a pointed tool in one hand and a gauge in the other hand. It would take about 2+ minutes per tire plus checking pressure several times. The worst thing was that I had to be down on the ground doing it. With deflators it seems that you just screw them on, wait a few minutes and take them off.

Previously had that Smittybuilt air compressor, it died and replaced under warranty, the replacement died with
in a few months. Gave up on Smittybuilt and got a Viair 440P, works great..

For deflators, I use the JT Brooks pro, a bit expensive, but easy to set and forget.

I have these, and they are great. Very high quality, and couldn't be easier to use. I likewise got the 6-30 psi model; they were preset to 18 psi as advertised. Since I haven't done any hardcore off-roading, I just left them at the preset so it's been totally painless. But there are videos showing how easy it is to adjust the set-point if you prefer a different pressure. I'm thinking about a second set so I can have a set for 12 psi and a set for 18 psi.
