We love PR. Been there 3 times and the wife and I really want to buy a place there and have that as our retirement retreat.
Get it while it's still relatively affordable... prices are climbing as Europeans are buying up the entire island

Check out the Muddin’ Lessons Learned” thread on the off-road driving techniques forum here. There are some fun places to Jeep in Puerto Rico. And Jeep Wrangler is the perfect vehicle to explore the island. 2-doors fit better on the narrow roads of the island if you have a choice. A lot of rain so something set up so it is easy to get the top up and down QUICKLY is the ticket. I use the Sunrider top and for me, it allows me to enjoy the cool forest canopy and then close up quickly when I am in the rainforest that gets over 240 inches of rain per year and then surprisingly (HaHa), it starts to rain. So I pop up the Sunrider top in about 30 seconds. Off-road think xTreme Recon or Rubicon XR for the clearance and traction here, if you are thinking a stock JL. We cannot drive on our beaches any longer but there is a lot of sand as you approach the beaches so 35s make life more fun. Don’t park under palm trees with coconuts. Those devils falling are a real danger. Watch the parking garages in Old San Juan. I have 75.1” and just barely fit in only one of them. Lastly, people are friendlier when you have your top off and are driving slowly or you stop to say hello, even if you don’t speak Spanish. What a beautiful adventure this island is. Yes, you do need a Jeep to truly experience it properly. Stop by Humacao and say hello if you get to the Isla Del Encanto.
