The D light on the transmission will flash, the interior lights will come on, the vehicle will make an audible repeating chime and multiple systems will let you know that your door is open. Also, you won’t be able to move until you close the door, shift back into park and then back into drive.

Ok, figures it’s some kinda government safety feature to protect us from ourselves
Been driving 40 years and ain’t run over myself yet :)
Somebody let me know if there’s a disconnect for this please!

The only way to open the door while in gear is with the seatbelt on. Found out the hard way what auto park was when I started valeting JLs that would come to our hotel.

so if you remove the doors and drive naked, you just put your seatbelt on and it will work fine? just the drivers seat?

There's got to be a way to hack this like the seat belt chime.

It's the Anton Yelchin safety feature. The actor that was run over and killed by his Jeep when he thought it was in park. Just live with it is what he would say if he was alive.

If you’re naked I think either it turns off auto park. Or it stays on and you just need a seatbelt.
I definitely think you need the seatbelt regardless.

Not quite true. The only way is with seat belt fastened. It doesn't have to be around you.

You make a good point. Seems like a seat pressure switch or a button on the dash that you have to hold down while backing up would accomplish the same thing. Just spitballing. I know it would add some to the cost but some might be willing to spend it to avoid the frustrations...
