So I just installed my @Motobilt tire carrier and I am very impressed with the quality of the product. With that being said my concern is the gaps not left open with the installation of the new hinges. I am worried about water collecting in there from rain or car washes and causing damage. Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem?

Its open underneath anyway. Mud, water, and everything else gets splashed up in there as it is.
Oh okay, I did not know that. Thank you.

I didn't either until I did a wheeling trip. It was a bit muddy, which I am not a fan of, but is unavoidable around here. Later, opened my tailgate and noticed mud on the retaining arm. Then when I went to install my tire carrier, removed tail light, saw day light down there.

The JK had some padding that plugged that area up. Not sure why they didnt do that this time.
