My wife wanted me to take her on an offroad adventure for Mothers Day, but the closest places I could find in Maryland were Garret County, a lake in PA or GW National Forest in VA. Did you go to one of those spots, or is there something closer to the greater DC area?

We went to the Watershed in Gambrill in Frederick. Nothing super crazy, but the rain made for great puddle jumping and the stream was a surprise bonus! I know there are some places in VA but I haven’t been to them yet. Have you been anywhere fun?

I want to hit assategue also at some point and Rausch Creek. So many places to go!! I have to check all these out.
Rausch Creek is supposed to be good. A co-worker has done that one. Both are a 2.5-3hrs each way for me though coming out of SOMD. Both are Jeep Badge trails. Charlottesville is closer for me. More road trip things to do down that way—restaurants, breweries, wineries, B&Bs.

Ha, the closest I've gotten to off-roading so far is the overflow parking lot at Antietam National Park. Thanks for the tip on Gambrill State Park, it's been ages since we've been up to Cunningham Falls.
