Ok, while I agree that looks dumb. I'm not sure it's any more stupid than people who lift their Jeep and put 35+" tires on it, but never actually take it offroad.

Funny you bring up that analogy. Big wheels on a Jeep that never goes offroad actually serves the exact same purpose as a Porsche that never gets driven above the speed limit. They help guys compensate with a very specific problem...
