Those tires will mount up nice on 7.5” wide rims. I would be a little worried about mounting a 12.5” wide tire on a 7.5” Rim. I know some say you can do it but just because you can doesn’t mean you should!
Or a LT315/75/17 in Load Range C. Almost the same thing!Nitto confirmed this tire size is real and they have them in stock. Now if we could get them to build the ridge grappler in 35 11.5 17!
Nice! Let us know what you think after a couple hundred miles.I ended up going with the Nitto Trail Grappler 35”x11.5”x17” tires mounted on an ICON Rebound 8.5”x17” rim. The wheels offer a 4.5” backspace and a -6mm offset. The tires have a C sidewall rating which I think will yield a softer ride. Here are a few pics of the wheel and tire combo!
I saw this in the Mojito thread and love it. You stole my thunder with the bronze wheels with mojito ;-)I ended up going with the Nitto Trail Grappler 35”x11.5”x17” tires mounted on an ICON Rebound 8.5”x17” rim. Curious how you are liking your 35x11.5x17 Nitto Trail Grapplers? Perhaps if you have time you could post a brief review?I ended up going with the Nitto Trail Grappler 35”x11.5”x17” tires mounted on an ICON Rebound 8.5”x17” rim. I only have 2300 miles on them and haven’t had a chance to get off-road yet. I am running them with 34 PSI and they are smooth and quiet! I will be heading to Arizona in early October and weather permitting will go thru Colorado and Utah so can update you a little more then.Curious how you are liking your 35x11.5x17 Nitto Trail Grapplers? Thanks for the reply WXman. So what you are telling me is that I should consider the lighter C load Nitto Ridge Grappler vs the heavier C load Nitto Trail Grappler? For many years, I've had this habit of using a level and a tape measure to get the real world size of various offroad tires on the market. It's a sickness.
You will find that the 285/75-17 size is pretty much dead on what you're asking for. A "35 inch" tire typically measures out just a tad over 33" tall while mounted on the Jeep. By contrast, the 285/75-17 measures out at 33" while mounted on the Jeep. You're talking a fraction of an inch taller for the "35" at the expense of a fraction of an inch less width.
Bottom line is, if you had two identical JLs parked side by side in a parking lot, one with 35x11.50-17 tires and one with 285/75-17 tires...you wouldn't be able to tell which was which from 15 feet away.
The 285/75-17 has the bonus of being much more common (there are many AT and MT options) and they are more lightweight.
Have you calculated MPGs with these on?I ended up going with the Nitto Trail Grappler 35”x11.5”x17” tires mounted on an ICON Rebound 8.5”x17” rim. The wheels offer a 4.5” backspace and a -6mm offset. I have not, but since they were put on at the dealer before I took delivery I would have no means of comparison to stock. Theoretically though they should be slightly better than the same tire in a 12.5” width just due to less rolling resistance.Have you calculated MPGs with these on?
The main thing I meant to say is that the 35x11.50-17 size is not significantly larger than the 285/75-17 size. So, if you really really love that Nitto Trail Grappler, then by all means go for it. But if you sort of wish there were other tires to pick from, don't be afraid to look at the 285/75-17 instead. Both sizes will fill up the wheel arches the same in the real world. Thanks for the reply WXman. Looking at their listed dimensions not under load, the Trail Grappler is 34.76 tall and 11.42 wide, 72.60 lb. and the Ridge Grappler is 33.86 tall and 11.26 wide, 64.4 lbs. I have the Mopar 2" lift which is more like a 3" lift. My concern is not enough rubber to fill the gap between the top of the tire and the fender flare. How much lift did your RC 2.5" spacer net you?
I log my mileage in fuelly.com so that I get accurate trends. So far, I'm seeing 2.5 MPG decrease from stock to my 285/75-17s. For me at our fuel prices here, that's roughly $20/month extra fuel costs.I have not, but since they were put on at the dealer before I took delivery I would have no means of comparison to stock.
