Super exciting I know, but I just installed some fresh wipers on my JL and it looks like Jeep simplified the design a bit. My original ones (2018) have a little cosmetic cover that snaps in on top of the attachment point, and on the new ones, this area is smaller and doesn't have a cover.

Part number: 6838 3600 AB-001 , package date: 2020/04/28

So the new Mopar doesn't have the cover? I refrained from replacing since I could not find an after-market with the cover and was going to just opt for the Mopar. Seems any after-market is okay. Thanks for the update.

There's no cover anymore as far as I could tell. If you want the wipers with the cover, you could probably still get some new old stock 68383600AA rather than the AB revision.

This is just per wiper manufacturer anyway, yes?

I hoarde cheap wipers like I hoarde motor oil and some have it, some don't. I don't care for the covers as they're a solution looking for a problem and do NOTHING for functionality

Yeah, every manufacturer will have their own design. This is OEM Mopar though, so I didn't expect to see a change.

Not really a big deal, but it does look a little less finished to me without the cover. The OEM wipers worked well for me so that's why I went with them, but for my next set I may see if PIAA has any of their silicone wipers that fit the JL since those are even better IMO.

I’m really glad that they had time to change the wiper blade design to save a quarter of a penny per blade for FCA. Unfortunately, those same engineers who did this redesign could have been working on the steering box issue that took THREE YEARS of hassle for EXISTING CUSTOMERS to deal with.
+1 for FCA and the quarter of a penny
-5,000,000 for existing owners with 3 years of problematic steering, hundreds of NHTSA complaints, and federal probes launched.

“ yippie! We save a quarter of a penny!!!!!”

Knowing FCA, the change is most like a cost-cutting decision. If they can save 2 cents they will.

Poor John Elkann, owner of FCA, needs a new yacht.

I threw those plastic covers in the garbage the first time I replaced them. Otherwise the blades are super easy to swap.

Understood. My CJ7 had the wipers freeze one night so I, mistakenly, thought the little covers had a function. But my better physics says they don't. Thanks for the reply.

Bought Bosch ICON 16A wiper blades last year from Amazon at $10.02 each. In August. Couldn't have been happier with their performance and price.

Maybe I waited too long, this year in October they are $24.99 EACH!!! WT you-know-what???

Sometimes Amazon automatically raises prices to match other vendors, but their bot doesn't always recognize vultures. I am hoping this is the case, as I'm not spending $50 on 32 inches of Bosch this year...

Sometimes dealer "service parts" come from a different supplier that the OEM factory parts. Plus there are mid-year design changes. I always choose a major brand wiper blade, but even then some are great and some are not so great.

If you have a hardtop, don't forget the rear wiper.
