Installation manual:
Mopar CAI Cold Air Intake Induction Kit Installation Instructions Jeep Wrangler JL.pdf

Feedback:

The Mopar CAI reuses the stock inlet & lower part of the box.....main upgrade is a reusable filter and smoother airflow between the air box and the intake.

After opening the rear cover of the hood vent, my wife, who is normally oblivious to anything vehicle related, asked me if the new sound was from “that thing on the thing” (meaning the vent on the hood - she’s very technical as you can tell). Even she could hear the intake noise, it’s noticeable but not intrusive. The sound is a little deeper and throatier. The pick-up does seem better than before too. The 10hp claimed gain could be close.

As for attaching the Mopar Snorkel -- the inner piece of the “vent” can be removed and the snorkel will sit in the void it leaves behind. Mopar has made it clear that the snorkel isn’t water tight and is intended simply to provide cleaner, colder, air.

Update:

Aha!! I looked again, there is a hinge...I pried the rear cover open and it can stay that way with the hood closed.

I think it's kinda cool, but you've done all the work for the snorkel at that point.

It’s expandable to the snorkel system.

Was it painful to cut your hood? Not sure I could do it.

On a side note I like your LIVEALOHA plate and surf board in the background.
I had the dealer do it, not sure I could have cut into her myself.

Clearer picture of the SUP...

Is that hood vent breathable or is it completely blocked off?

Also is the intermediate pipe bigger than stock? Looks like most of the flat part is gone.

...but how does it sound?
We had 130 km/h winds last night as I was driving it home...was more focused on keeping her in a straight line than anything else....will have to report back on that.

The “vent” is fake, sadly.....however it allows for the snorkel to integrate with it if I get that at a later point. I may decide to open up the spaces between the honeycomb and make it functional but I haven’t decided yet.

The piping is definitely bigger and seems to have fewer points where the air would be slowed down. Definitely a high flow rather than true cold air intake.

Are you serious?! That vent is fake?!! Why cut into the hood to put a fake vent??....so what easier to upgrade the snorkel, I dont want the snorkel.

I was just about to order the thing...bump that.

Wicked bummer.

Trust me, I’m not super happy about it either...lol.

As I said, I may open up the spaces in the honeycomb and make it functional later on.

You could install minus the vent piece, I can’t see why that wouldn’t be possible. That said, the reason I wanted this one is because I thought it was going to be true CAI not just a high flow with a fake vent.

I'm sure the engineers thought of water and snow getting into/blocking the vent if it was an open one. But still, why drill hood to put a fake vent?

I'm wondering if it plays some role we are not aware of...maybe helps direct flow within the hood?

Can you post a picture of what it looks like inside the hood?
