So I bite the bullet and bought Mopar 7 inch lights, one question I have:

Regardless how much I tighten them, I can always push the lights tilting back and forth, is it by design like this? I would like to set an angle and forget about it. It seems the lights are not loose but can always swivel when push harder.

Not sure what’s going on with your set up however I have had the Mopar 7 inch lights on my 2018 JLUR for two years and my not move at all.

I haven't had mine that long but they haven't budged from where I put them. I guess the air doesn't push them as hard as you can.

well, if you take a look at the baja designs mount, it's two bolts on each side.
one is a pivot, and one is to keep things from rotating around the pivot.
it appears you only have a single pivot bolt. no matter how much you tighten
something like that up, it'll move when you push it.

it's just a limitation of the design.
Sounds very reasonable, thanks for your explanation!

Mine can too if I let it. I spent a lot of time measuring and pointing them. The 5" lights on the A-pillar gave me the most trouble. They should light up the ditches to either side of the Jeep but it didn't look right so I pointed them more forward. Trying to make them symmetrical gave me fits so I left well enough alone.

I think it will help that you can still move them a bit when out on the trail. Adjust the light where you need it more.

I am curious about the 5 inch light, because no way my 7 inch light is 7 inch, they are 5.5 at most generous way to measure. So I guess the 5 inch light is more like a 3.5 inch?

I think the measurements include the bracket in their dimensions, not just the light size.

Nope, it is not that. I’ve had the 5” and 7 “ since their release back in early Feb. 2018. Never understood where they came up with 7” or 5” it was BS marketing. No matter how you measure them, you do not or can’t come up with either 7” or 5” meaning either the big or small lights.

Like I mentioned before I’ve had them for over two years and use them on every over landing trip as well as lifetime trips. Love them, had them on the water with no issues very dependable.

I haven’t done any long trips yet (soon though!), but the 7” mopar lights have been great for the dirt roads in my area. I’ve been using them for about a month and haven’t had any issues with them moving on their own; solid quality so far. I’m curious to see how they’ll handle in the snow and ice next winter.

I had originally wanted to do the the same setup with a mopar grille guard but the guard wouldn’t fit over my SmittyBilt winch. I ended up doing the Warn small guard and bolted the lights right on the bumper. Luckily, they fit perfectly. Still really like the look of the lights mounted on the guard though.
