Haven't been, but as far as hiking is concerned you can connect with the PCT and explore offshoots or bag Olancha peak from Monache. Olancha is on my to do list

Make sure you take the short hike up the dam at the fish camp. I would go but headed up to mono county that week. The eastern sierras never disappoint!

I've been and you love it.
It's not a hard core trail, but it can get very crowded on a weekend.
Used to not be such.

@steverino did you end up going? I hear that a number of roads in the southern sierra took a beating with the recent monsoon rains. wondering how monache is holding up
