You're not wrong!

It's currently sitting over on the port in california. Looks like it's gone through customs, but it's just sitting in the yard right now it seems. 🤷‍♂️

I looked it up, did a bit of research, looks like I will in fact have to pay the duty tax. It'll either come via email or phone call, either from the custom/border patrol agency, or it might come through fedex. It could also be pay on delivery, in which case they deliver it and tell me how to pay it. 🤷‍♂️

Definitely going to be the last thing I order from China anytime soon!

The benefit of ordering from China has always been that if you are using it for personal use and it's under $800, you didn't have to pay any duties. Now that that's out the window it kind of makes this whole process significantly less simple.

I'm not saying this thread is going to go dead for a while, I might find some stuff to order that is made in China but is being housed in the United States, but who knows at this point.

I'm hoping these are two separate things. Because if my package still has to go through customs, then that means that 20% duty fee is now a 145% duty fee. Putting it about $80 past any savings I got from ordering from China.

I've already done myself the favor and deleted any apps I have that I currently don't have orders processing through, and once I receive these two items I'm waiting on, I'll be deleting all purchasing apps on my phone. No point in risking it. Especially for 145% duty tax.

So if my package was already processed through customs and it's just sitting on the yard waiting to be processed and picked up by fedex, then I should be good. The 20% duty tax will put me at $194.06, that's $125.93 less than it would have cost me to purchase it through Thor's Lightning. However, if customs hasn't processed it yet, the 145% duty tax will put me at $396.21, which is $76.21 more than what it would have cost me to buy the same product from Thor's Lightning. :headbang:

If they raise the duty tax again, to a even higher percentage, I'm basically going to have to grab my ankles and go hang out on the corner and wait for a John to come pick me up, because at this point I'm forced to pay the duty tax whether I want the item now or not. :punch:

So at this point, I have a PC case come in from Amazon, and this dual air compressor coming in from AliExpress.

After I receive both of those items, both of those apps are getting removed from my phone.

Problem is occasionally you order stuff from amazon, and it takes like a month to get to you and it shows up with a origination location in China.

Up till now that's not a bad thing, but if you receive one of those at this point, likelihood is you'll have to pay a duty tax. And at 145% of your products cost and whatever shipping you may have paid, it's going to make purchasing that product significantly more expensive.

My wife just received a pillow that she ordered on amazon. It was a $45 pillow... I stopped complaining and asking questions when I bought my jeep. She doesn't question my purchases, I don't question hers.

But like I was telling her the other day, if she were to order a second pillow, and it comes from china, and she pays $145% duty, and then she decides she doesn't like the pillow, she can return the pillow and get her money back, but she won't get the duty fee returned. So you end up upside down if you don't play your cards right. And the issue with these Amazon orders is a lot of them don't tell you where they're shipping from.

So I think the safe bet here is buy local only and that way you can look at what price you want to pay.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, people don't realize how much stuff is made in other countries. In 2022 I believe it was greater than 60% of our oil came from Canada. For the most part any fabric item is going to come from Asia.

The other day I bought $480 worth of engine oil for both my wife's vehicle and mine. I got in just early enough that I should avoid any major taxes put on oils. So we have 30,000 miles of oil, with oil changes every 5,000 miles, oils already been purchased. Unfortunately we don't have the storage to prep for too much stuff, but I'm not looking forward to these price increases on everything.

At minimum future proofing my purchases by not ordering anything else online from this point forward until these duties are alleviated, well at least help a little bit.

Well, at least I feel a little bit better now...

Jeep Wrangler JL Mods from China!! [** ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS **] 1000010140

The days of Thor's Lightning costing you $320 are gone!

I understand they pay a different shipping rate than I did because they order in mass quantities, but let's just kind of do it general estimate as to how much profit they're making now...

Product price is $99 from the manufacturer, with $46 shipping, and a $145% duty tax, will put it at:

Jeep Wrangler JL Mods from China!! [** ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS **] 1000010142

With their net profit being:

Jeep Wrangler JL Mods from China!! [** ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS **] 1000010143

... So they're still making almost exactly the same amount they were before. I guess that's business for you.

Well if it's worth anything, looks like you can still save some money by ordering from China.:whew::idea:🤯

Thankfully I don't need anything else for the jeep, at least not anytime soon. So I'll probably just buy my time and wait for these tariffs to drop... In another year or two.

With these new prices, we'll find out what's actually made in the USA.

Funny you say that, that was going to be my plan the second I get home from work.

And then I'll probably call them out on here! ;)

I might be temporarily safe.

Regardless, the wife and I have talked about it and no more purchases from China for now. 😥

BTdubbs, you guys think these tariffs will affect computer parts? I'm wondering if I shouldn't just order the $600 worth of computer parts for my new tower or if I should chance it and wait it out?

Four parts, all under $200 each... 🤔

Thoughts?

After doing some maths, I figured waiting to order later this year could potentially cost me an extra $400 in increase (tariffed) costs.

Only the Western Digital is manufactured in China, the rest are manufactured in Taiwan (supposedly).

Regardless, I don't know how bad the duties are going to become, right now they're pretty bad, potentially could get worse. So I figured ordering know would be a decent choice.

The other option is I wait and then if it ends up costing me a $1,000+ later in the year, I'll be kicking myself! :headbang: 😓

Will be fun having a tower which isn't 15 years old! 🤗 :handsinair:

The reason small towns are dying is because everyone buys from Amazon and online stores.
Saving money is nice but buying everything online is a detriment to our communities.
Shop locally if you’re able.
Too late...

I just finished a build in January a Lian Li Vision 011 which is nice but their fans/software have given me the biggest headache of the process. The TRYX Panorama is a great CPU cooler.
Just a heads up.

Hopefully nobody will be needing a new iPhone anytime soon. Apple makes more than 80% of its products in China. Those products now receive a 145% tax / tariff when they're imported into the U.S.

Since 90% of consumer products have Chinese parts or assembled in China.... here is a $13.00 part to make wireless carplay or android auto function on pre 2023 UConnect. I ordered mine about 3 weeks ago, and should be here in a few days.

Below is not from the online store I purchased mine from.

Everything is vague on serching on its specs but a Russian site broke down the ARM7 architecture... bluetooth 5.3 and Wifi 6.

That TRYX Panorama... talk about OVERKILL‼
If it's doing what it's supposed to do, you don't need all that extra stuff on there... Especially at that price! 🤯😓

I have a Noctua CPU cooler in my current tower I'm going to swap over. It's $50, does everything I need, and nothing I don't. 🤗

I do agree, supporting local business is ideal.
However there are some major downsides to trying to find specific things at local businesses, especially when it comes to specific PC parts.

Closest stores to me that sell PC parts:
BestBuy McKinney: 13 miles away
BestBuy Allen: 21 mi away
MicroCenter Richardson: 42 mi away

That's a lot of driving just to find out they don't have the parts I want. 😖

I ordered from Amazon for these parts because it was one stop shopping, and because I can get it in less than 5 days.

The last two major purchases I'll be making this year are Reid's Steel Knuckles, and a set of American Iron Ball Joint Deletes, which I'll be purchasing through my local off-road shop, and then having them install them. 🙃

I usually keep my Android phones for quite a few years before I buy new ones. My last one I kept for 5 years, and only upgraded because technology had advanced so much. Plus I figured it was time I get myself a high-end phone.

Personally I'm a fan of motorola. I understand they are like most companies, made in China, however they do assemble them and test them here in Texas. 🥳

So it is kind of supporting local business... I guess 🤷‍♂️

I ordered this phone in 2022, and I'll probably end up keeping it until 2030 before I think about upgrading again. Don't need a lot from a phone, and this phone has everything I need. 🤗

Sadly I have the 5-in screen, so there's no Android auto in my vehicle. 😫

On the plus side, I've already purchased quite a few screens from China that give me Android auto, and allow me to use On-X Offroad while off-roading, and Google maps with a larger screen. :handsinair:

Nope. We'll find out which manufacturers are going to gouge the consumer. Just because it's made in the USA doesn't mean they won't raise the price. Just means they'll hide behind the excuse of global demand or some bs like that.
