I purchased my 2018 JLU Moab a month ago used. It had about 46k miles and in amazing condition. The previous owner really took care of it (thank you, whoever you are) and didn’t do any off-roading.

Here is to chronicling my “builds” I have a few plans starting this weekend. Please feel free to give me suggestions, I welcome all feedback. This is my 4th Jeep, but this is my first Wrangler!

This weekend was very eventful. My dad and I installed the following items Oracle Rear Bumper Reverse lights, S&B cold air intake, S&B hood scoops, Mopar Auxiliary switches AND ceramic coated the paint. I’ll post separately to document the process. I am so glad I was able to get help from my father on these projects.

Oracle Rear Bumper Reverse Lights

This was our first install of the weekend and ended up taking a bit longer than it should’ve. We decided that we didn’t need to take the bumper off, which was a fatal error. If anyone is considering installing these lights, TAKE OFF THE BUMPER!

Once we did that the install was a breeze! The lights look great, and are super bright! Only thing I wish is that they pointed down a bit but other than they are great.

S&B Cold Air Intake + S&B Hood Scoops

This install was extremely straightforward, the only issue we encountered was getting the hood scoops attached with the supplied screws. I wish S&B would have larger screws that hood these in. Not because it’s not secure but the install would be much smoother. I do also wish the scoops were a bit cheaper.

The results are pretty’s impressive, the Jeep sounds great. I do hear it at all speeds especially when accelerating, and while underpowered in high gears. Overall sounds great, and looks great.

Mopar Aux Switch Bank

Although this install was LONG it was simple, we followed the CJ Off-Road YouTube video step by step which made it very easy.

The only hang up we experienced was after the switches had been programmed they sill did not power on. We went down the line checking all fuses and saw no issues, so we decided to remove the orange wire connection that we made with the supplied connector and solder it together which worked! That connection is at 14:28 in the YouTube video below. This was a tip we read multiple times on the forums, thanks all!!

Video we used as guide:

Ceramic Coating

This was very time consuming but definitely worth it. Here are all the steps we took.

Step 1: Wash
We washed the entire Jeep with Dawn dish soap. Reasoning was taking off all the grease. It left the Jeep feeling not very smooth and all the plastics looked dull.

Step 2: Iron Remover
We spayed the whole Jeep top to bottom (not undercarriage) with an iron remover. We left it on for a few minutes and used a clay towel for trouble spots, then thoroughly rinsed it all off.

Step 3: Polishing
My dad took a power buffer polisher and compound and polished the whole Jeep, while I taped off any plastics that we did not want to have any polish touch.

Step 4: Ceramic Coating
We coated all the plastics and front metal bumper with one layer of CQUARTZ Dlux. On the paint we used two layers of CQUARTZ SiC, waiting about 45 mins between layers. We applied the SiC to the paint and had to buff it between 45 and 90 seconds...anything beyond that would leave a mark and caused us to have to redo an area.

To make sure we were not leaving any streaks we used a flashlight to shine against the paint. This worked much better than moving your head to reflect the shop light on different areas.

Step 5: Show off
I will wait about a week or so before I get it wet so the water marks don’t show up. The result of this process is AMAZING, the paint looks so deep, and like glass. To the touch it is extremely smooth. It took a lot of time but very much worth-it!

You guys did an amazing job!!! I'm tempted to empty out my garage so that I have space to do this as well. The detail shops around here want $1200 - $2000! (San Jose pricing) Will you do the glass as well?
