So I am totally clueless on wheel selection so hoping to get some advice. I currently own a Jeep JL Rubicon Unlimited and I am planning on adding a Metalcloak 3.5 Gamechanger Kit, Nitto Trail Grappler or BFG KM3 37x12.5x17 tires, and 701 Method 17" wheels. My problem is that 701 wheels come in both 8.5 and 9. Here are their dimensions:

17x8.5:
backspace: 4.5
offset: 0

17x9:
backspace: 4.6
offset: -12

So the question is there an advantage to one or the other especially as it relates to the setup I want to have?

I don’t know all the ends and outs with the game changer lift kit. Yet I thought I remember someone saying depending on which shocks you get will dictate your backspace and offset. So double check with Metalcloak and find out what you can run with the kit you are looking at installing. I know this isn’t an answer to your question, but I hope it helps you get to the end results you are looking for.

For your intended setup, I'd go with the 8.5's for a couple reasons.
- The 4.5" backspace recommended for the Gamechanger
- The slightly less tire poke will better clear the outer fender lip, when one side droops and the other stuffs
- A bit less wheel weight, to not add any more than needed, when paired with that heavier tire
