Don't quote me on this since it's been almost a year since I bought mine and talked to MC about it, but I believe it has to do with the stock wheels having too much back spacing. The stock wheel won't seat on the carrier and bump stops correctly. I did not ask if putting a spacer on the carrier first would work.Anyone know why the stock wheels aren’t compatible? Metalcloak says no on their site.
If you can get the 35's to sit tight against the spare tire bumpers, you're probably good for awhile with the stock carrier.Great info!
Moving to 35s on my stock Rubi wheels and was looking at this, but... It also seems unclear if with 35s on stock wheels one even needs to beef it up.
Interesting. So this dont use the rubber isolators?I just completed the install of the MC Sportgate. I am happy with the quality of the parts. They seem strong enough and have a good fit and finish. Here is a pic of the completed product. I did use a body armor LED light ring.
Yes it does use the factory isolators, my pics don't show them. The machete wheels have 3.5" backspacing and with the 12.5" Wide Nitro's it fell just short of touching them. I added a rubber piece to make them work (cane tip from Lowe's). So far no rattles, but I have only driven 5 miles.Interesting. So this dont use the rubber isolators?
The MC does not work with JL HubCentric wheels...factory, AEV, Teraflex, ETC.Anyone know why the stock wheels aren’t compatible? Metalcloak says no on their site.
I have the adjustment all the way in and the tire still didn't come in contact with the factory bumps. It was only about 1/4" shy of touching. The rubber cane tips that I had used with the Mopar beadlocks and 35" K02's filled the gap.Tim,
One of the things I love about the Metalcloak sportgate is that it's adjustable. Even with 3.5" backspacing, you should be able to move the mount in and out so that you contact your isolators.
Wow. That is quite a bit out then.I have the adjustment all the way in and the tire still didn't come in contact with the factory bumps. It was only about 1/4" shy of touching. The rubber cane tips that I had used with the Mopar beadlocks and 35" K02's filled the gap.
I don't think that's true. My Vision Nemesis wheel hubs are the same as stock wheels and they fit just fine on the Sportgate TC. It's been awhile since I spoke with MC about it, but I believe the issue is due to the backspacing of the stock wheel. The MC does not work with JL HubCentric wheels...factory, AEV, Teraflex, ETC.
The MC Camera mount diameter is to big for a JL specific wheel too slide over.
The MC sport gate I received 4/20 would not work with factory, AEV or Teraflex Nomad wheels due to the center bore being to small (hub centric). I had these wheels and I have tried these wheels. Would not fit over camera mount. Told by MC that this was a miss on their part.I don't think that's true. Here's a closeup of it:
In fact when I ordered my Sportgate, there was no such warning on their website. They reached out to me to verify which wheel I was going to use and I was planning on keeping the stock wheels with 1.5" spacers. Upon learning the stock wheels wouldn't work, again due to the backspacing, I decided to get aftermarket wheels. That's how much I liked and wanted the Sportgate.
I ordered and got mine Jan 2020, so I wonder if they changed the camera housing diameter at some point between Jan and April 2020.The MC sport gate I received 4/20 would not work with factory, AEV or Teraflex Nomad wheels due to the center bore being to small (hub centric).
