I could see how loose brackets could result in frame damage that is being seen.

I'm not saying this is the cause, but that it could be for some.
I initially had brackets loose on my first 500 mile trip. Replaced all hardware with much strong hardware and orange locktite. No longer loose after 9000+ miles of towing.

The design flaw IMO is the 2 bars not being tied together, allowing independent forces

We are aware of this issue and this why we always recommended that users add the towing tie rod that we designed specifically for flat towing. Unfortunately some customers opt out of this option and trust their towing braking system.
We strongly urge every customer to use The Maximus-3 Towing Tie Rod which we are currently selling on our website as a towing package. Some customers are buying the tow loops just for recovery only, in which case the tie rod is not required.

Thank you.

So does that mean these brackets are being bent outwards from the braking forces? Interesting.

Nice to hear, this is my use for them. I try to avoid any extreme angle side pulls anyway, but now I'll have an even better reason.

Is there a picture of this tie rod installed? Where/how does it attatch? Does it go between the rear holes? (eliminating using them for D hooks?)

The tie rod bolts between the tow bar arms clevis attachment points. So your towbar arms no longer will collapse for storage, it will permently look like a triangle. This fix puts the tie rod on the towbar arms instead of on a baseplate. I sent all mine back uninstalled. It will prob work but I did not want to keep it on the towbar for storage.

”The Maximus-3 Tie Rod provides a 3rd triangulated component, which prevents the tow-bar arms from spreading outwards in the event of surge break, delay or ...”

This tie rod was not available or even part of the conversation when these first came out, so always recommend is not completely accurate... It sounds like the tie rod can be purchased separately, not sure what I am going to do as I just noticed that mine are bent as well and I don't feel like repurchasing the entire system.

I researched the crap out of this purchase — twice. This is the first I’ve heard of the tie-rod. It never came up in my email discussion of flat-towing parts either. (I initially bought the wrong loops. The Maximus guys were great about accepting the return, but the tie rod was never mentioned. Never saw it in an installation video or discussion either.)

Me too, really disappointed/pissed off and hope the hell my frame is not cracked. I don't have time this weekend to pull it all apart. When these were originally purchased, I clearly read safe for towing, heck the original sales pitch thread for 2019 is still on here. I would have purchased the tie rod bar originally if I had of known about it. In fact, Maximus should have reached out to everyone that purchased these to let them know that they were not safe for towing without the tie rod bar.

I can't find the instructions or a better picture to help visualize how that tie rod fits in there.

Why is the first response from Maximus 3 a deception post, trying to re write history. This option has never been offered to me, and I had never even heard of it until they posted their link.

Let me be very clear....what I purchased was represented to be all I need for towing behind an RV...as Is.

Now maximus 3 has admitted that they knew of a defect but chose not to tell us of the problem.

I feel blessed that someone posted this defect and allowed me to inspect for the problem before I killed someone.

If this post does nothing more, I hope that everyone that has these tow loops will immediately stop using them for towing. It is a major risk. Their needs to be an immediate recall of all products sold. Unfortunately the NHTSA is not setup to handle these type of product recalls so the best thing we can all do is to spread the word.

Maximus 3 should issue a recall, since they have the customer database. This would be the very least they could do.

100% agree. Really pissed off and I have never bad mouthed a small business before, but this is BS. I went with this product instead of taking off my ACE bumper and going with bumpers that had tow rated d rings on them because Maximus said they stood behind their product and had tested these out. I then hacked up my ACE bumper and now have bent tow loops and if I stick with them, I have to buy everything over again? I am sure they will quickly delete this original sales pitch thread, but here it is, no mention of needing a cross bar.

Maximus 3 provided a lifetime stuctural warranty. I take that to imply any structural damage caused by using their product as intended is covered.

That is good news. I will ask for my bill to be itllemized for repair of the structural damage. This is removal of the bumper, Winch, tow brackets. Welding the damaged frame. Reinstall bumper and winch.

I don't expect them to cover the replacement bumper or tow system, but do expect to be covered for the repair costs and refund of defective product.

I was all set to buy these but unless they come up with a cross bar that goes between the tow loops so I can stow my Roadmaster towbar I will go with a bumper with clevis mounts instead. What would be a good option for a bumper in this price range That would work with my non LED fog lights? Maximus wants $654 for the tow package.

I purchased the Maximus tow loops for a flat tow setup a few months ago. I also researched the heck out of the various options and never saw any reference to a tie rod setup for the tow loops. When I called to place my order they advised that they were now recommending the tie rod. Thankfully, I am late to the flat towing game as the tie rod is a substantial and heavy piece. I would be ticked had I towed without the tie rod and then they came out with one.

Did you look into this setup? Anyone using it?
