Can you show pictures of exactly what cuts need to be made on Rubicon OEM bumper and Skid plate.

I think these are exactly what I need.

Thanks, Jim Rice

Just to give you an idea of what's needed. This is for the D-ring loops not the Tow Loops but it should be similar. The cuts are not hard but I would recommend a cut-off wheel or angle grinder.

For the D-ring loops no modification was needed to the skid plate. For the Tow-loops no idea.

Tow loops do require modifications to the skid plate, same as bumper. I used a 1.5" hole saw and an angle grinder.

James_a Thank you for all you info. Greatly appreciated.

I've spent hours looking for a replacement bumper and just really like the OEM Steel that's on it. This deifnitely gives me all my options of towbar use and still being able to add a winch.

Thanks again, Jim

Great reading all this. It looks like I may be able to install these. I have a JL Overland (Australian version of the Sahara). It has a tow loop on the underside of the bumper from the factory. No top tow hooks. It says nothing about it being useable for recovery. It is bolted flat on the front of the bumper mounting plate and seems to have reinforcing on the back of the plate, Only on the Drivers side.
Couple of questions:
1. Anyone tried a snatch strap recovery with the OEM loop? If so what happened?
2. If I install the Maximus-3 tow loops do I remove the extra reinforcing bracket to make it fit? You can see this clearly on the 3rd picture. These brackets are only on one side (ie the driver chasis rail).

TrickyO, can't answer your question but I suspect those rings were designed as tiedown points for the boat ride to Australia. Are there a matching pair on the rear too?

I recently installed the front tow loops (with winch plate), and figured I would share some pictures that show the cutting required.

These pictures show Maximus-3 JL TOW LOOPS, which WILL work with your winch plate.
We also make JL D-Ring Loops, they will only fit the Maximus-3 JL Winch Mount.

Hi Richard,
Yes the factory brackets (outside of chassis frame) get removed in order to install our tow loops. Our tow loops also reinforce that area with much thinker steel.

That is the first time we have seen that version of a factory "tow loop". We noticed the following:
* the material gets pretty thin near the bottom.
* we do not see much reinforcement - in our opinion, it's not ideal for recovery operations.

Looks like the top bolt has no thread left.
Is that with washer installed?

are you using a winch plate also? maximus by any chance?

I am using the Maximus-3 winch plate, with the two (inner?) spacer washers that are required. You are correct, there is no thread left on the top nut. I'm not too worried about it though... The winch plate added tons of strength between the frame rails, and the notch for the tow loops made the outer (removable) portions of the bumper weaker.

I placed an order on the 26th with the forum 5%. I haven't got a shipping confirmation or even an acknowledgement of my order... can I still qualify for the additional 5% off? I bought both the front and the rear.

I installed my rear tow loops yesterday. I found a trick to the install that's maybe common knowledge, but it wasn't in the instructions and felt clever to me:

On the passenger rear, there's an included nutstrip that needs installed inside the frame. To get this in position, you need to remove the rear bumper. That's not a big deal, maybe 30 minutes of work in total. BUT... you can actually push the nutstrip through the oval hole a little bit forward on the frame. It is a super tight fit and I found inserting it in the frame hole with the "finger" upwards and then rotating the strip inside the frame did the trick. I then used a pair of pliers to hold the "finger" while I inserted the bolt.

Saves maybe 30 minutes or and 60 if you're like me and any install requires 2 or 3 on and offs before you get everything in the right order.

Overall, many thanks to Maximus-3 for this product. It allowed me to remove the flashy red factory hook, protect the rear bumper (since these can act somewhat as a slider), and increase the capabilities of the jeep wile keeping it close to stock.
