Forum won't let me attach file and I'm to lazy to change format. Really not to hard. Just remove taillight Slide reinforcement bracket over hinge bolts. Install washers and nuts.

Got mine mounted, sport version.
For those with the reinforcement bracket - it’s large washer (over the factory weld nut), then bracket, smaller washer, then nut. (And all of these on the hinge bolt that you mount from inside the Jeep.)
Instructions could use work. I understand there is an updated version, via a super helpful call with Maximus.
Had an alignment issue where the tailgate sagged with tire mounted. Joe answered the phone at 4:30pm on a Saturday and spent a good 45 mins with me. Talked through my issue, and other details that I had question on. Truly exceptional customer service - remarkable. With his pro tips, I fixed my issue directly. Was worried I’d have to unmount and remount the whole thing, but the solution was adjustment of the four hinge bolts on the tailgate. Tried adjusting it first with the tie-rod disconnected and that proved difficult. Reconnected the tie-rod and the adjustment seemed to go better, mounted the tire, and boom perfect alignment and solid as anything.
Had difficulty passing the 3rd brake light wiring harness through the bracket frame as others noted, plenty of clearance in the mast, but the hole in the bracket is too small for the plug to easily pass. Also as others said, the length of the front bolt on the camera Housing cover needs to be shorter to avoid crushing the camera. I kept turning even when I felt resistance, (not smart), and now have a fuzzy spot in the camera. Per Joe, a smaller front bolt is included in current shipments.
Assuming new shipments go out with the new instructions and correct bolt lengths, this should be a cherry project.
A couple tips:
- if you find that the male / female tubing (For lack of better term) for tire-depth adjustment doesn’t clear one another ...just loosen your bolts and adjust the two parts. Mine didn’t clear at first, just required slight adjustment. Easy peasy.
- for a 37” tire, go with the lower setting. 37s clear great at the lower setting. I have the OEM steel bumper if it matters.
- for tire depth - I had to adjust mine at least 3 times to get the tire pressed in tightly against the bracket, as advised. My first attempt with setting depth was way too large..,kept going smaller and smaller. I would recommend measuring your tire / wheel depth, and then going at least a half inch shorter on setting the depth with your carrrier...and if you’re between holes, then err on the side of shorter.

Hi Alex,
Thanks for your unbiased feedback. It appears that we accidentally sent incomplete install guides. Recently we went back and greatly improved the instructions, I emailed them out to everyone this morning.
Glad to see that you were able to figure out the install process. Moving forward our new install guide is incredibly detailed and covers all the topics that were previously missing. Also we are filming an video install guide soon.
This Tire Carrier is a beast, and there are several fine tune adjustments to be aware of. We are here to help if you have any further questions.

I ran the carrier on my JK and it was very solid. I was rear ended one morning and the 35 hung on the Maximus-3 carrier destroyed the Honda Accord hood without any bending or twisting of the carrier. Will purchase again for the new JL.

I received your email with the new instructions and they seem to address all my concerns.
My accessory brackets arrive on the 1st and I'll install the support brace when I install the accessories. I'll shoot some pics out.
Before installing the TC my rear door would sometimes not shut fully if I didn't push hard enough. Drive my wife nut. Now with the TC the door shuts perfectly every time.
Planning to be at Overland Expo West this year, hopefully we will see you guys there!

Installed my carrier over Fathers day weekend. This thing is solid! I'm not particularly handy but it installed pretty easily.
I also fought with the 3rd brake light wiring but expected to from the other comments on this tread., After @ 15-20 minutes of trying to squeeze it through and looking for any trick I was missing (the hole size is just so close to being big enough), I gave up and cut to wires to the connector, fed them through the slot, then spliced the connector back on. Not difficult but a little frustrating it wasn't in the instruction... or better yet, the hole was made big enough to feed though the connector. I assume the design didn't take into account the paint/powder coat thickness.
A bigger disappointment is that the mount is off-center to the passenger side several inches. It isn't obvious until you get the tire on and see the position in relation to the factory bumper indent. The pics I've seen on this thread and on Max-3 website don't really show the off-center positioning, either because the tire isn't mounted on the carrier or the angle of the picture doesn't allow for a definitive view. I've got to admit I couldn't have image that a tire carriers wouldn't be designed to be centered on the bumper so really wasn't expected to have to check it. Maybe I missed something in the description.
Are other installs seeing same?
My 35 still fit on the lower vertical setting but since the tire was off-center to the passenger side it triggered my parking sensor on that side when in reverse. I raised the mount and the sensor issue was resolved. I'm concerned that if I go to larger tires it will trigger the sensors again.

so...I never noticed the off-center position til your post. I went and checked...yep off center by an inch or so. Does not bother me in the slightest, and didn’t even notice til I went and looked, but that’s me. Hardly noticeable imho.
and yes...I damn near broke the 3rd brake light wiring plug trying to pass it through the hole, but it’ll pass with enough push. But yeah, that hole should be opened up. Agree it’s probably an issue of not accounting for the powder coat.
I run 37s (nitto ridge) on the lower setting and have zero issue with the sensors. Is your tire pressed in against the bracket, as specified? Not sure why yours would alarm with 35s at the lower setting while my 37s are fine. I’m running the OEM steel rear bumper fwiw.

Yes - tire is tight up against bracket. I'm very surprised that you can even fit 37's on lowest setting. Looks like all the pic show highest. I'm running 35" Nitro Trail Grapplers. Maybe tire width is different enough to trigger my sensors vs. yours. I don't think wheel should make a difference.
My quick measure looks like a little over an inch off-center - Max-3 engineers should have exact measure from CADs. Bugs me now because 1) Would have been nice to use lowest vertical setting for visibility, 2) I can't really use the vertical adjustment feature as advertised (with parking sensors), 3) if I go to larger tires in the future I may need to disable parking sensors, and 4) paying @ ~$1K for a tire carrier there shouldn't be any weird design/feature surprises. I've also got to admit I feel a little mislead. The other tire carriers I reviewed don't seem to have off-center mounting. If I had know I may have made another choice - particularly for that price.

I'll add pics to show my clearance with 37's later. I clear great. My tire width is 12.5...are you running 13.5? There's a few tire carrier's - AEV notably among them (though it's a bumper based carrier) that are off center.
I know other tire carriers -LOD's bumper carrier for example - also caused issue for several with parking sensors going off. Not doubting you at all, but yours is the first account I've seen for the Max 3 carrier having that issue...though these are new to market. Sorry to hear you're having that issue.
