Well, I'm about 95% sure I'm ordering up one of the long racks. We used to tow an Adventure trailer that had an Eezi-Awn Series 3 1800 tent on it and it was absolutely awesome. But now, without a trailer, I'm going to setup the Diesel Wrangler (ordered and waiting for it) somewhat the same way (instead of the trailer).
The tent weighs 220lbs. The Maximus is the only one I see that has that static capacity (barely) required. More than enough dynamic capacity though for the two of us and some gear when camped.
My main concern at this point is two fold. With it's low profile, how in the world am I going to get the tent attached with the platform already on the Jeep. The Eezi-Awn has it's own rail system around the perimeter of the base. I don't think it's going to be as simple as drilling through the floor and using what I've seen here. I just can't quite wrap my head around how this will work. The second concern is that I don't plan on leaving the tent (and rack?) on the Jeep over the winter so 6 months a year it will be removed. The removal of the platform, with the tent attached is my focus. If there's an easy method to quickly remove the tent then the rack could stay but then again, that's an issue with it being so close to the top.
Like others have said, just put the bolts back in through the roof. Well, that may work but not necessarily the way I like to do things. With harsh winters up here in Alaska, I may want something more substantial. Maybe devise a cover or plate that goes over the hole areas much like the surface profile of the platform itself???
My focus is on how to get this all done. I've ordered the Jeep from Everette WA. I'll fly down from Anchorage when it's ready and get it (Mid March??). Then hopefully, my preplanning will work. Get all the gear (rack, tent, storage area gear - for fridge etc) sent to a friend down there (free shipping normally to the lower 48) and have an install party. Shipping prices to Alaska are ENORMOUS) Then drive it back home using the Tent for camping. The hard part is trying to coordinate all this so I am not waiting for parts but rather they are sitting there ready and waiting for me.
We shall see. The Maximus setup will house an Eezi-Awn Series 3 1800 T-Top XKFUSIV Roof Tent. Just the tent as it will take every inch of it. It's closed dimensions are 48″L x 71″W and weights 220lbs. There is no better tent in my opinion and you get what you pay for. I must get the best rack system available. Hence me being here
Our Previous Hemi JK setup with the trailer. It's now just going to be all in/on the Diesel JL.
