I’m running through the EXACT same issue, was hoping there would be some replies but I’ll check back later. I actually just ordered the large one today but am seriously thinking about canceling and switching. I like the look of the short better I think, and I doubt I’ll ever need the full size, aside for a RTT down the line.
RIGHT!?!
If I understand the Maximus-3 installation correctly (please correct me if I’m wrong) the brackets, mounting locations and drill holes are identical on the JLU regardless if it is holding a Long or Short Pioneer platform.

So in all of my (limited) wisdom here, I could order the short platform and if it does not suit my needs, I could then do a one-for-one swap with the Long platform using the existing Maximus-3 mount already installed.

Anyone out there experienced with this platform swap?

I have just received my maximus Roof Rack. Do I have to disconnect the battery to move the satellite antenna?

I agree with your insight. As a first time Wrangler owner I’m still learning and feeling it out with each new experience and upgrade.

With your long platform do you regularly remove the Freedom panels? If so, do typically carry them with you or leave them at home?

I’m finding it a bit of an annoyance to use up the limited internal space when we remove them, though I’m certain I can adapt and overcome.
I don‘t remove them often, to be honest. But last time I did, I put them in their bag and tossed them in the back seat. Supposedly they’ll fit in the rear, but I lost space back there when I added my Slipstream.

Correct, the mounting bracket locations are the same Long v Short. You could easily swap rack sizes without modifying anything.

Anyone know if the ikamper universal brackets fit under the Pioneer platform using Maximus brackets. Based on the dimensions I’m reading on Maximus website it’s not looking good but wanted to check here. What’s the exact height from rooftop to platform to get your hands in there ?

has anyone managed to get the front runner quick release mounting brackets working with ikamper tent and Maximus/pioneer platform

Example of ikamper universal bracket with backbone pioneer platform

You right, there is absolutely no room for ikamper brackets to fit between the roof and the bottom on Pioneer platform. I had to do a custom solution with two bolts and a piece of metal, but it is almost impossible to tight those bolts as you can't even reach them with normal or longer wrench. I actually had to unbolt the roll cage platform legs and lift the tent WITH the platform to reach to those bolts. I will make some photos tomorrow during daylight and post them.

I have now bought these brackets from Front Runner and plant to install them in the coming weeks - https://www.frontrunneroutfitters.com/en/us/ikamper-quick-release-tent-mount-kit.html

Most likely it will required drilling holes as FR platform and Pioneer platform have different layouts, and will increase the overall high about 5 inches.... Which might not be necessary a bad thing as I might try to fit now a FR or similar camping table between the rack and a tent. FR has special sliding brackets for that.

Cheers.

Top half of brackets are attached to the platform. If you remove the platform, you get just the roof as it was before the install. Well, with 8 holes :) Which you could easily plug with something appropriate.

thanks for letting me know that there is no room. That makes me re-think my setup.

just use the screws with rubber washers to plug the holes. Have done it to my hard top and stays 100% dry.

Let me know how this setup works for you. I'm installing the Maximus 3 Pioneer Platform and I"m considering an Ikamper RTT as well. Good luck with the install!
