Any one know if it is necessary to remove the soft panel / insulation that is stuck to the inside of the roof in order to install the @Maximus-3 ? I called Rebel Offroad and they wanted 920 bucks to do the installation of the rack... I was feeling lazy, but now all of a sudden Im very motivated.

Soft panel? If it’s in the way of the brackets you probably will. But not sure what you mean by soft panel.

If it’s not that thick you may be able to just drill it through the foam. If not, you can mount the inner bracket as a reference and just take an exacto knife to it and cut around the bracket.

Does that sport bar trim piece get reinstalled somehow or does it need to stay like that?

Kinda what I had in mind, but was just curious if anyone had done it previously who knew for certain how it all worked out. I appreciate the answer, thank you sir.

You can install it back. The Instructions show you how to mark it and cut it to fit. I just haven't done that yet.

Cool. Thanks. I'm patiently waiting for the 2 door version to be released. I need to see the brackets and determine if they'll work with a Spiderwebshade.

... And the answer is yes, you can install the Maximus3 with the insulation still in place with out cutting it or removing it. The insulation isnt that thick and it crushes down very thin. Installed my Pioneer rack over the weekend and its sweet !

Confirmed! The insulation can stay, I'd only recommend to get a bit longer screws to make the bolting painless. Use a longer screw with a washer in one of the holes, tight it down and put in & tight down the original set in the other hole. Once done, replace the longer one with the original. It will help to compress the headliner.

The 2-door Maximus-3 JL roof rack is coming along nicely. We have already successfully prototype'd the design and it's spot-on.
Currently going into production.

Our official recommendation is to cut/trim holes into your headliners. This allows the inside bracket to rest against the hardtop.
Kudos to those of you who made it work without cutting the headliners, but we thinks its best to cut access pockets in the headliner (insulation)

Cool. About how long until it's available for purchase? Can you give any other details like the size of the pioneer platform used?

Just a side note: our roof rack won't work (or the other way around) with the Power Tank bracket - the Maximus's rear support bracket is exactly where the tank is supposed to lay. I am going to "fabricate" a go-around bracket. Once solved, I'll post some pics.
