Any ideas on replacing the manual transmission shifter knob. I like the pull lever style but can't find replacement as "chrome" is peeling off?

+1 on the B&M. That's where my money will eventually go.

didyou or anyone install these? The B&M install seems a little bit much for me
I haven't, no, but it's just a knob replacement. The knob adapter will either be a press fit or a set screw I'm sure.. the knob itself threads onto the adapter that's part of the setup they sell.

The toughest part will likely just be removing your current knob, which I have done. I wrapped some rope under it, then tied it to a block of wood .. I let the rope go a little slack and then gave it a quick lift up and the knob came right off... Much easier than trying to tap it out IMO (though I used too much force and nearly went through the soft top.. so be careful!). I haven't tried the transfer case knob, it might come off differently, not sure.

I recently installed the B&M on mine. Piece of cake. It really isn't difficult. Hardest part is removing the factory knob, which if you do it right, is pretty easy. Take a short length of 2x4 (12-18" long or so), and wedge it up under the knob. Hit the wood block with a positive persuasion device (aka "a hammer"), and it should fly off on the first whack. The rest of the install should take you no more than maybe 20 minutes. It's really simple.

If it makes you more comfortable, PM me -- I'll give you my phone #, and I can walk you thru it.
