Update: I purchased my vehicle on Saturday the 15th and it has been in the service center since Tuesday the 18th. I just received a call that they replaced my steering column, the steering modules and flashed my system and they still cannot figure out what’s going on with the JL. They notified me that they put in a call to Jeep and will have a call with one of the engineers on next Monday or Tuesday to hopefully get this figured out. I’m super disappointed with this purchase at the moment.

I’m dealing with this after only 6 days of ownership. My Jeep has been in the shop for 3 days now and they fixed the power steering module but they still can’t seem to get the power steering to go back to normal.
What problem are you having? Does the steering lock up?

It’s not so much locking up as it has more to do with a lack of power steering. The electronic stability control system went off as well but the service manager said that this has a direct correlation to my power steering issue. I wish I could post the vid I have.

Update: My car has been fixed. It ended up being that the grounding wire behind my right headlight was faulty. My JL is now back home.

My Nacho Sahara's steering locked up on me today. At first it was just slight resistance turning left and then it was fine, but a half hour into my drive I was not able to turn left at all. Luckily there was no traffic and once I dropped my speed to 30KM/H the steering came back. Spent the next two hours trying to reproduce it and I couldn't so I expect the runaround when I bring it to the dealers on Monday.

Yes. You will get the runaround from dealer “not able to duplicate problem” after they drive it around the parking lot for 2 minutes.

I would contact @JeepCares.
Insist the complaint be escalated to a regional manager.

Most importantly file a complaint with NHTSA and other regulatory bodies. Canada?

Unfortunately you have to make some noise to get attention.

Do it for your fellow countrymen.

I really hate to hear this. We can go ahead and get a case created and escalate to a Case Specialist before your appointment. It's always beneficial to get concerns documented. Send me a direct message with your VIN to get started.

Add me to the list. I just hit 12,000 miles and this issue just started. Ive noticed that it tends to do it when its cold in the am and it is getting worse with the weather change. This am I was on my way to work doing 65 mph down a major highway and my steering complete locked out on me and i could not turn the steering wheel. I went into the lane next to me and almost hit multiple cars and then breaked slighly and thr steering came back. This is a major issue and someone is going to get killed. Jeep cares I need help immediately.

I have a 2018 JLU rubicon I am also having the exact same steering issues , I was thinking mine was when it was cold out (around 35deg) I live in Phoenix most mornings are around 45-50 deg and I've had no problems but when I went to Moab UT last week I left early in the morning to go home it was 37 deg and thats when it first happened it scared the heck out of me so I pulled over and that seemed to be the end it until yesterday I was in Sedona AZ again I left early around 35 deg and sure enough as soon as I got up to around 60 mph it did it again I kept playing with it back and forth after maybe 3-4 min it just went away no other problems the rest of the way home I hope this helps
Rick- any resolution to your issue?

Another JL steering issue is starting to appear after getting some miles on it - steering shudder / wobble. The thread is at https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/steering-wheel-wobble.16577 See video example below (10 second video). The fix so far has been either loose bolts/nuts or the steering damper, which is on back order. It is happening on both stock / non-lifted and lifted JLs.

Send us a direct message with your VIN if you're planning on getting this inspected by the dealer. Be sure to include your contact information and dealer name as well.

I recently having the same issue that Kevin8086 was experiencing. Mine started when the temperature got below freezing. My steering has no give to the left but is an intermittent problem. Has been to the dealer once and of course couldn’t be replicated on the 2 minute drive. I contacted Jeep Care already and seems that they careless.

Did you get TSB for the related Sw fix?
