Update:
A STAR case was opened and my dealer worked with Chrysler engineers who could not find a solution to the steering problem. They are not going to do anything and told the dealer to give my Jeep back. This is the third time it's been to the dealer to fix this issue. @JeepCares What happens when you can not fix a dangerous steering issue?

You hope you don't get in an accident BUT if you do I would sue the crap out of FCA.!!!

Hello longhorns,

We're so sorry this is happening, and we can see a case was recently escalated for you to review further resolution. Someone should be in touch with you in 1-2 business days, and please send us a PM if you need any assistance in the meantime.

I was having this issue severly last night on a windy mountain road that almost caused me to crash. It was 30 degrees outside and i was coming up to a sharp left turn, well I tried to turn left and the steering wheel locked up. It took both of my hands pulling on the wheel left and When the steering wheel released it sent me into the other lane. Luckily no on coming traffic was there, and even slowing down if the steering had not realeased when it did i would have ended up going stright into the k rail or over the edge. It happened every time i tried to turn left at any speed over 20 mph. It made for a slow ride down the mountain. I am going to have the dealership assess on thursday, however i know they cant reproduce it because it is not cold enough. Once the steering box is warm enough the issue goes away.

This issue needs media coverage. FCA could not be worse handling this. I was told on 1/11 Iā€™d be contacted in the next 1-2 business days and I have still not heard from anyone. Jeep cares sent me a message here yesterday saying someone would contact me yesterday, guess what, nothing. I guess "JeepDoesntGiveAShit" was too long a username.

They need public attention or a body count before anyone is going to take us seriously.

TO ME the the original poster of the video Thread Bash the heck out of his Jeep causing issues and post a Video and people lached on and now they have the same problem it's not a virus, People seem to follow things like this I'm not saying some people don't have an issue some do, I have 11K miles on my Rubicon and I'm all Smiles and ZERO issues.

Of course they have a fix if you buy parts from this guy or this is what I did to fix it I got my parts from here and everyone runs out and buys they same parts then realize that wasn't the real fix but a Band-aid.
I do feel sorry for the people who have an issue.

Quality control is lacking, even by first model year standards. Iā€™ve had the possessed climate/radio control issue, cruise control recall, and this steeing problem fixed. 16,080 miles on mine and itā€™s still my favorite vehicle. Just not the most reliable one.

I dropped my car off to deal with this issue on 1/23. The vehicle was returned to me the next day. They tried, unsuccessfully, to replicate the issue. I'm not surprised since it wasn't an "all the time" thing. My paperwork reads, "could not duplicate customers concern when tested. However, found TSB dealing with the issue. Performed TSB# 08-092-18." Also, "Module, Body Control (BCM) - Restore Vehicle Configuration LOP# 18019-02-DS."

It's only been a few days but so far so good. I have a full week of commuting to work ahead of me so stay tuned for an update.

Glad to see someone from Jeep is taking note of this. I have the issue as well. Very scary and potentially dangerous but it's the only car I have to get me to work. I hope to get some resolution on 1/23 when they take the car in... I will keep you all posted.

Okay so an update on my steering lock up. Its been at the dealer for about 5 days, just picked it up today and drove it 50 miles. So far it handles much better. Before i would get a lot if steering wheel shimmy and movement on bumps (i have a bad steering stabilizer that needs replacing). Now the steering shimmy is barely noticable over the same bumps that would cause issues previously. (Steering stabilizer is still the bad one) They tried doing the tsb fix for steering but it did not fix it and they found the steering gear to be binding and replaced the whole gearbox. Operation of the steering feels much tighter and smoother (bring on the jokes) :CWL:. As for it locking up nothing so far. Will test on a cold morning and see if it locks up. But so far the fix has been way way better. I can drive it without a deathgrip now. Uploading the service report that has the info of new steering gear box part number incase it helps anyone.

When I had the lockups, the steering box was replaced with the same model number ending in AC back in July. If I'm correct, the worksheet shows the new model ends in AL. That's shocking to me. They have gone through about 9 models already! I've pretty much given up on the shimmy/loose steering, now I'm going to push for this new model.

I've been corrected. The current model is the AD.

Dont get me wrong the steering isnt as solid feeling as the ram they gave me as a loaner. But the Steering is just a lot better/tighter than what i had previously to me.
