ok, yes I expect hate mail on lowering but I drive mostly high speed twisty roads in mountains and tow - only about 5% flat beach driving (hence the F&R lockers and 35 inch tires). I want a little better handling on the highways - I would like to drop it just and inch or 2 with just 4 coil spring changes. I see information on coil spring rates but nothing on what the factory free lengths of the springs are.
What is the best approach - will the springs from a Sahara or other model do the trick ? I am very happy with the rate of the springs I have - it drives great and is not harsh - I think I just need the same rate spring - just shorter. I did take photos of all 4 spring tags can some one can decipher the rate and free length ? the dealers are useless on this, as we know and the 1-800 jeep line is worse than useless.
If another JLU set of springs can't fir the bill - who can custom wind these for me ?

With the extended front bump stops on the XR, expect to bottom out often if you eliminate one of the 2.5 inches of free up travel. If you're serious, consider hacking off the bottom of the bumpstops and adding an airbump or hydro bump. Stock Rubi 4door springs (hard top/same engine) will lose you about an 1~1.25"

Changing spring means changing bump stops and shocks as well. This will also affect the angle of your steering components .

You might want to consider an aftermarket rear swaybar and/or front swaybar bushings. Different shocks could also help without lowering ride height. AccuAir might also be an option depending on budget, but you might need to remove the bump stops for a decent ride at lowered heights (and either smaller tires or high clearance fenders). This is true for any springs lower than stock. And of course getting more caster should help higher speed stability (longer lower control arms/shorter uppers)

I've also wondered if a little more camber would work on a solid axle... hasn't been tested as far as I know.

I found mopar 2 inch lift kit JLUR LCA put my camber right at 6. Drove great. LCA about $45 per side, labor about $300. Yeah, daddy don't got 150ft/lbs in the guns anymore.

Great advise on smaller tire, probably cheapest bang for buck. Sport take offs on cragslist? Don't like the smaller tire, sell em again go to plan b.

you should not have bought a Rubicon X with 35s
well who wouldn't want 35's ! but jeep designed 9inches of clearance from the top of the rear tire to the inner plastic fender liner and 7 inches of clearance in the front. Probably a boon to hard core folks but way overkill for me. they could have fit the 35's with 2 inches lower suspension easily. I am very happy with the vehicle - just looking to lower the center of gravity a bit for a slight handling improvement, otherwise it is the best jeep I have ever owned since my first new one in 1987.
I expect a few more changes other than straight spring swap, but I might first try adding a rear sway bar as suggest in a comment below.
