I have a JLUR with auto transmission. 2-3 times per day, something in the drivetrain causes a sharp shudder/jerk under light acceleration at low speeds. It almost feels as if it slips briefly and then catches.

I've noticed it happens when accelerating away from a stop or after low-speed coasting. Accelerating up the ramp in my parking garage makes it happen more frequently. Other than that, I haven't been able to figure out how to make it do this on demand.

Anyone else experience this or have any ideas?

Mine does this too, dealer couldn't reproduce when I took it in. Same deal here though, can't even reproduce it myself on demand although it happens somewhat regularly, particularly on inclines . It's like, just before the point where it should downshift the slip or brief interruptions in power happen.

It might be the active hill start assist. Mine does it too sometimes, but only if I am on an incline and stopped or going very slow.

Sometimes mine feels like it's hunting for the right gear; upshift then downshift, especially on an incline or strong head wind.

Yes, that exactly it. Report back if you figure it out...I'll do the same.

Good thought. I turned off hill start assist this past weekend while at our lease. Lots of steep hills, still lots of slip and catch.

I think its the transmission gear hunting. If its what I'm thinking of its a bit of a stutter from gear 1-2 or 2-1. It seems to happen when going at slow speeds or coming to a stop on inclines. I don't hear any odd noises when it happens that would indicate anything is getting damaged though.

GM had this issue with their 8 speed auto and it was a torque converter issue.

Great now add auto tm to welds, electrical, infotainment, clutch, wind noise, coils, steering, fender gaps etc... and we are still waiting for our JL with bated breath

Might not be related as some of you are stating this happens when going up inclines, but hereā€™s my experience. When I come to a stop I usually donā€™t apply enough brake pressure to kick on the ESS, but when I release the brake and accelerate it seems as through the ESS wants to kick in and thereā€™s a short pause/stutter when I drive away. So I turned off ESS and this issue goes away. Again this only happens to me when Iā€™m accelerating from a full stop, with ESS activated, but not engaged since you can apply enough brake pressure to keep the Jeep stationary without having the ESS kick in.

I seem to have this issue also, but it is very slight and I wasn't sure at first if I was just imagining it. But now that I read everyone else's experience, I know it is really happening. In my case, it sort of feels like a bucking when accelerating at low speed.

I have the gear indicator on below my "D" in the gauge cluster, but it is slow to respond to actual gear changes. I see it change a good 1/2 to full second after an actual gear change. So it's hard to tell if it is related to gear changes. I suspect it is transmission related and most likely could be fixed with a software update. We shall see.

FYI... I always run with ESS off.

Hi TXHunter,
We know you are just discussing this concern with other forum members at this time. If you do choose to visit a dealer to have this diagnosed, please let us know. We would be more than happy to offer an additional layer of assistance.
