We are a family of 5 and we love our JL Rubicon. I am wanting to find a camping solution that will sleep 5 that isn't a big RV, I want something small enough to tow with my Rubicon but big enough to sleep 5. I will only use it in the winter months so I don't need air conditioning. I was thinking there might be some teardrop trailer options with a roof mounted tent that my Jeep could pull. Any other Jeep owners out there purchased something like that or have any suggestions?

Thank you

2.5k lb or less and it sleeps 5. A pop-up is the only likely option.

A pop-up would be comparably economical, generally safer to tow (easy to see over with narrow-bodied mirrors, low center of gravity, catch less wind, etc.).

We love our pop up and take it just about everywhere. Really light and tows great. Sleeps 5 but for us it sleeps 4 and 2 labs.

Running a forest river R-pod 190. Supposed to sleep 4 but there are other floor plans. The Wife loves it. 2950 dry weight, using a weight distribution hitch with anti sway and it pulls fine. Averaging 11mpg in the hills of WV.

Iam looking at the same trailer and a geo pro 16 ft. Can you share more info in the weight distribution hitch and anti sway. I have a 2019 rubicon 4 dr with 4" mopar lift and 37" tires.

What do you need to know?
I got the hitch with the trailer from the dealer.
It keeps the rear of the Jeep from sagging.
it’s a tension bar type. The sway control is a friction bar type to help with any wind.

You don't need a weight distribution hitch unless your towing over 4000 lbs. Definitely get a sway bar it makes a huge difference. Don't forget a break controller if it has a 7 pin connector. Trailers over 2000 lbs may come with a breaking system. The geopros are pretty good. I'm happy with ours.

Be very wary of listed weights on campers. If it’s anywhere “close” to your max rating you can bet it will be significantly over after you add water, propane and the stuff you’ll bring with you. I’ve seen several whose “tongue weight“ even empty was a good bit heavier than the mfgr stated😳

I brought this Jayco 174bh home with me last Saturday and it towed just fine. You may want to upgrade the factory tow hitch to one from Curt. It's way beefier as you can see in the picture. The factory hitch is on the left in the first pic. Had to weld a stud on it to bolt in the right side of the trailer plug bracket as it's covered up by the Curt hitch. If you dont have a welder you can just drill a hole on the Curt hitch to access that bolt hole for the bracket . Tried to find decent tow mirrors and only ones I like were the ones from Rampage but they only make them for JK so I adapted them for JL use. I have a camera system already just have to install it. Also a WDH is recommended. I'm using the Reese Pro WDH with sway control.
