I don't know, if its loud its a mechanical issue and a reflash would just slow down the fan. Being in AZ, I'd rather deal with a loud fan over overheating in the desert.
My fans are pretty loud, so I hope I don't have this flash.

A redesigned fan would be the only real fix.
The software update keeps the fan from always being full blast. It will still be loud if it is very hot out, and quiet when it doesn't need to be full blast. The software update won't cause problems, it fixes the fan from being loud every single time it turns on.

I could live with the fan, but the surging at idle in traffic is horribly annoying. I sat in traffic in 100 degree weather for an hour yesterday after a 10 hour shift outside so I was a little tired, hot, and predisposed to being annoyed. Then this damn thing wouldnā€™t quit bucking in traffic. Shouldā€™ve left it on the highway and ubered home. I forgot about it until it got hit again this year. When it was still new it surged, but not nearly as bad as it does now. All the dealers are telling me itā€™s a day and a half to reflash this thing. I call bs being that the service bulletin calls for less than an hour. Most of the Jeep dealers Iā€™ve dealt with leave a lot to be desired when compared to other brands that Iā€™ve owned.

The fan noise is a bit annoying for my new jeep. It is a 2019 turbo built after the shutdown around 6/17. The fan is usually quiet when I come to a stop, but once you get over about 10 mph it cranks up to full speed and you can hear it. This seems backwards, I'd expect some fan noise when stopped, and for it to turn off once I start moving. But you can hear the fan slowing down as you are coming to a stop. Coolant temperatures are usually 190-195 and don't seem related to fan noise.

I feel self conscious when driving around a parking lot that my fan is so loud. Since we are currently in a 90-100 degree heat wave, i was going to wait to see if things improve when the weather cools off. I had a rental Sahara turbo a month ago in South Carolina 80-90 degrees and I don't remember noticing the fan once.

Are people having this TSB applied to the 2.0 turbo?
I have the same issue with a 2.0.

I cant tell if this may have already been done on my 2018 before I bought it in April 2019.
Can anyone advise.

My fan is LOUD, and runs most of the time when the AC is on (not just when on Max), but not all of the time.
It sounds like before this update that fan runs ALL the time, correct?

Before the update, when the fan was on, it was on 100% full blast. After the update, the fan would throttle up/down according to cooling requirements. So on extreme hot days, it could give the illusion it is on 100% full blast all the time because it needs to run full blast to cool.

Yea, mine seems to be all or nothing.

When it kicks on, its ON and LOUD.
When its not, I don't really hear anything notable beyond the normal engine sounds when AC is not running.

I guess I will bring this up at the next service.

'19 2.0 here and have the loud fan noise, its been 90-100 for the last month in NC, and I notice more when pulling into garage and its on but I never use Max AC setting and its loud using normal AC at any point, never felt the rough idle though at all yet, interesting ...

I didn't think I had rough idling before the software update. After the update, it went from what I thought was already smooth idling to "is the engine on?" because the idle is way smoother.

I am having the same loud fan problem. It only bothers me when I am at a drive-thru window. I need to shut the jeep off to hear a word they are saying. I would figure ESS would kick in when stopped in the driver thru, but it never has.

It also may have something to do with the AC settings - as I am in Mesa, AZ = >100days/year greater than 100 degrees.

I still need to play with it, I am still getting used to the JL

Mine did this yesterday on my 18ā€™ and it sounded like it was scratching the shroud. It didnā€™t last long but not a peep since, fingers crossed .

I realize this is futile, but many of us already have had the flash performed, and it seems like the issue is not fixed. My cooling fan is loud enough that it impacts conversations in the Jeep and people outside stare. This starts somewhere around 25mph if the temp outside is 90F+. The algorithm for fan speed selection seems incredibly naive, and not based on coolant temperature performance on a PID controller or something else that proactively controls coolant temperature, but merely outdoor temps.

Have FCA come out with a fix that actually works for those of us with a 2.0 or design a cooling fan that doesn't sound like a jet taking off. That would be extremely helpful. My dealership is wonderful, but the "fix" did nothing to help.

Either that or add it to the marketing material that the Jeep will scare people away from you as active collision avoidance with a fan.

Are you sure they applied the software update? I've had Jeep dealerships flat out lie that they checked something or updated software and later found out they didn't. Or they could of plugged in your JL and it showed all updates were applied, thus didn't apply the update because "it didn't apply to your VIN". They can override it and apply it anyway (Jeep Cares can help with that if the dealership is uneducated on how to do an override). Or, maybe their system said it updated but it didn't take. You could also go to the dealer's lot, find the same model and year, and start it up to see if it is more intelligent about when to go full blast.

Hi Schism75,
If this continues to happen, we recommend bringing TSB 18-041-18 REV B to your dealers attention so they can determine if it applies to your vehicle. We're happy assist with that process as well- just send us a private message!

I appreciate the advice. Iā€™ll take it in soon as it started again intermittently at idle or driving
