Try another dealership.
This is exactly why I'm not trying to get the AE gear box installed in mine. I called my dealership and they said I would have to come in so they can drive it and see if I had a wondering issue. I said, "but I do have a wondering issue, so why can't you just replace the gear box?" They said they need to drive it themselves to determine if it does. I know exactly what that means, it means come on in and waste your time so we can tell you that it drives as designed. I'm just gonna wait and hope they have a recall on it....but I'm not holding my breath
Don’t accept a drive. Print the instructions to check your AD box for spec (they are attached to a star case earlier in the forum). I can almost guarantee it is way under bottom end of spec.

Brought my JLU in for "wandering" and the tech communicated with the FCA Help Desk immediately. First thing they told him was check all ball joint torques. They were all okay. Then was told to check alignment and of course mine was way off from the factory. Then the Help Desk specifically told my tech to set the the total toe at 0.34 with each side being as equal as possible. Wandering issue is much better now.
Just want to add something here. Steer smarts recommend you set your toe to positive .5° (toe out). This is against the typical thought process. Also the “each side being equal as possible” it’s not really possible to make separate adjustments. It’s one adjustment. You can kinda tap the wheels back and forth to get the numbers equal and then continue working on the total toe.

Hope that clarifies a little about these.

I just came from a dealership and asked them about the AE box. They said that they would need to test drive it to determine if I had an issue or not. I said "seems like a waste of time cause you'll probably just tell me it drives as designed". then I said why can't you just replace it if I think there is an issue. they said "we can, but you'll have to pay for the parts and labor out of your own pocket" I don't think pointing them to the star case will do anything. Like I said, I can only hope for a recall to resolve this at this point.

I had them check for any software updates, specifically the flash PCM RRT8-054 and the 18-19-06-WU PCM flash LOD, because I read that fixed someones steering issues. They said that it is VIN specific and mine does not apply....but they did do a PCM update to reduce the AC fan being so dam loud so that's a good thing

Somewhere JeepCares posted on this website that even though a VIN doesn't show a particular update, that they should still apply the update if the same symptoms exist. Plus remind them, it only takes a few minutes to apply an update.

oh really? I did not see this. Information I could have used a couple hours ago haha. I will try and track it down and bring it to there attention. I need to go back to them soon because they wouldn't give me an inspection sticker because I tinted my front directional lights.

After driving my Jeep this past weekend, my husband ordered the Steer Smarts track bar for me :).

Now it’s time for me to get off my bum and check the caster to see exactly what the Mopar LCAs got me. I’ll order adjustable LCAs if needed. I might also get a better steering damper.

I’m glad that some are having success with the new steering box. Awesome! I’m not holding my breath for a 2-door box.

Hi californiajeeping,
In some cases, a TSB will state that if an owner displays the same symptoms, even though they are not within the build restrictions, perform the repair. Although, this verbiage is not always stated. For example, TSB 02-003-19 does not have this verbiage. We apologize for any confusion caused by our past statements.

Driving is a very subjective test, I would go to a different dealer and have them check your box for specs attached. At least it is an objective measurement of how much play is in the gear lash.

We appreciate your help getting the dealers to apply common sense, especially when a TSB exactly describes the symptoms perfectly even though the VIN isn't in the list. There are many examples throughout the forum where the dealer applies a TSB anyway with successful results. Now, if we can just get the dealers to put 5 quarts instead of 6 quarts of oil in JLs. :)

I have a March 2019 build 4 door Rubicon with wandering issue and dead area in steering wheel. Went to dealer , they agree and sent me to alignment shop since they didn’t have one. No problems with alignment. So I call dealer and they say there is nothing else we can do for wandering issue, call FCA. FCA called today and said that I have to go back to dealer again and show them that it is still wandering. What came first chicken or the egg? I told FCA give me a new steering box “AE” model as I have an “AD” box, track bar and V41 have been done; FCA says we can’t get you a new steering box unless dealer says something wrong with the one you have!!! Can anybody give me a hint of how to deal with this indiocracy, FCA knows they have an issue - why in the hell would they not want to put the newest part on a car that could kill people ???

You guys have done wonders , will know tomorrow but you all have stepped up and have people doing the correct thing. Will have more definitive info soon and hopefully JLU will be corrected soon. I’ll advise everyone once I get to that point

So this sounds good in theory but in reality I hardly doubt they would go thru this much effect. The reason I say this is cause, I did have my steering box replaced a while ago but it was with the "AD" number (AE wasn't out at this time). My original one was so bad that they could see it when they placed it on the lift and turned the wheel. When they put the new one in I directed them to this STAR case and asked them to perform this before putting it in, they said, "No we don't have to do this because all the new ones are coming in to spec now". So they couldn't even take the time or effort to verify if a new steering box met spec, that was not installed yet, I hardly doubt they would go thru the effect to remove the one that's in there to do this.
Come on recall!!!!!!

Does anyone have any ideas what build dates would have the AE steering boxes from the factory?

I have the Fox one and it started to cause my steering wheel to slightly pull to the right
