I got my Jeep back yesterday after the dealer had it for 5 weeks for wandering steering.

They replaced the steering gear.

It's still broken.

They are aware of STAR case #S1819000003 and all but ignored it for the most part.

They didn't check the alignment beforehand and didn't align it after replacing the steering gear.

My patience is really growing thin.

5 weeks? You already qualify for lemon law (at least in GA, I know different states have different regulations).

I believe in TX it has to be brought in 4 times.

Edited: It's not as simple as that. I do pass one "test" (the 30 day test) but I would have to prove that the "defect(s) that substantially impairs the use or market value of the vehicle" are in fact defects that substantially impairs the use of or market value of.

Just got my trackbar and Draglink replaced. It does drive different. I'll have to confirm again with tomorrows commute. But it does track straight with less to no wander. And when I do give input to the steering it feels more precise. The service manager did confirm he felt the draglink click and noted up and down moment before he replaced it.

So in a nut shell 4 loose ball joints nuts upper and lower, loose tie rod nuts, bad stabilizer, loose trackbar and confirmed faulty draglink I think I am good to go for now with my steering. They kept the alignment settings stock.

So I am happy.

I picked up my JLUSS on friday and I have been experiencing excessive steering effort just to keep it lane. Its tiring and has to be done constantly. One time I was just looking at a road sign and the vehicle was almost over the median and that scared the shit out of me.

I took into the dealership this morning at Auto Park, Cary and I was dismissed saying "Not sure what you have been driving before but this is a typical jeep thing". I also got a lecture on the crown of the road and how bigger tires will track the curve of the road. But I swear I am driving on a flat road and the jeep just wanders off the lane from side to side.

I contacted Jeep cares this morning and hoping they would be able to step up and help me with getting a solution.
Check PSI first, then on to other possible causes. PSI as low as 28-32 as per https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...-makes-huge-difference-in-ride-quality.24839/
I have driven a few hundred miles at 85 mph with 30 PSI, with no problems. One finger on the wheel is doable, even if it is unwise.

PSI fix won't matter if you have other problems, but it needs to be checked and set before proceeding to other remedies.

NOT A JEEP THING! Do not let them tell you that. When they say that, tell them Jeep Thing is why we keep buying Jeeps after they fail to fix them.

Try a different dealer, you may have to look around to find a decent service department.

Anyway, check PSI first, then check for loose joints.

In for the fifth time today for wobble. Getting ready to send written notice for final chance to repair. Dealership said they just received notice they are going to get a new TSB regarding another updated steering stabilizer that has not been released to dealerships yet. Great, another bandaid.
Call a Lawyer. There is no other decent way to get good information about your states laws. Be sure the lawyer has experience with the lemon laws in your state.

Dang, they suck. Check with a Lawyer about lemon laws, and consider taking your Jeep to a totaly different dealer. I have found that if someone is either incompetent, or ignorant, they are not going to wise up and behave better any time soon. Tell the new dealer you are sorry you bought it where you did, and wish you had known. Hopefully they will do right by you.

Gentlemen, I wish you all the very best going forward addressing your steering related issues. Not at liberty to discuss any details or answer buy back questions, but safe to say our Jeep is no longer a member of the family. That being said, my dealership was excellent and so to was the third party intermediary. It was disappointing to say goodbye. Who knows, maybe a bronco, but not seeing a Jeep in the near future.

With that, thanks for the all info and interesting topics.

The ultimate result of Chrysler turning a deaf ear on a real problem. Frustrating and sad.....

Dropped mine off yesterday morning at the dealer, showed them the Star case #. The service adviser called late yesterday and said that the service manager had driven it, then they re-torqued the front end and that they did find some loose nuts. They aligned it and were going to start looking at the wobble when hitting a bump above 35mph. i'm not holding my breath....
