Don't forget to check your OEM Link Rod part number. The newer part number that came out earlier this year has two reinforced brackets inside instead of one. 68258760AD

Anyone who’s had this replaced notice a difference? Mine has play, but haven’t had it replaced yet even though it’s been seen four times for steering by two service centers.

I'm having trouble finding this update to the bulletin. Has someone posted what was updated this time around?

@TDS where can I find instructions how to adjust the steer box?

@Martindfletcher does PSC hydro need a specialist off-road shop. I guess I can ask PCS if they know someone in Ga or Alabama

@JeepCares id go in half in on a new AE if you can get my dealer to install it.
Sorry for the late response. It is actually pretty simple. Take off the air intake tube between the air box and throttle body. Look straight down at the top of the gear box, you will see the adjustment allan screw and jam nut. I used a pass through sock for the jam nut so I could use a long extension with a allan socket, I spun the jam nut counter clockwise tell the allan hits the top of the case, then hold the allan still and force the jam nut about a 1/16th of a turn more to free the lock tight. Spin the allan screw back to the original starting point, make sure the paint Mark's line up, hold the allan screw on place and back off the jam nut, tighten the allan 1/8 of a turn, tighten the jam nut, reinstall the intake tube and go for a test drive, if it still feels lose repeat the process tell it fella right, make sure the steering wheel returns to center, if it doesn't the adjustment is to much. This is how I did it, doesn't mean that it is the right way

the Allen head adjuster screw is set with red loctite, if you don't apply heat to it prior to attempting to turn you risk stripping the head. folks contemplating this adjustment should scroll back at least to February timeframe for additional info.

It’s highly recommended NOT to try this. Many have sheared off the nut and had huge repair bills from it. According to FCA it’s also not supposed to be adjustable.

Totally agree and it really does not take the "play" out but rather tightens the lash tolerance, making the steering feel like it has less play but in reality it's just tightening it. If you go too far you will see the steering will not return to center on it's own because the lash adjustment is too tight. Then you have to back it out again to free it up. It was exactly the same on my XJ.

I had my appointment with my dealer yesterday morning to check my steering. This is the second appointment for steering, third if you include the V41 recall.

I explained what has been happening with the excessive play being the biggest issue. I told the service advisor how we had to turn around from going to Tahoe last weekend and how tightening the sway link bolts helped the frightening loose feeling we experienced. I went over the timeline of issues and fixes, particularly our aftermarket track bar and stabilizer.

I went for a test drive with the shop foreman and he noticed the corrections needed. He did say that the JL steering is a bit more loose than the JK. At this point I was bracing my self for the dreaded, "it's supposed to be like that..." but he didn't go there. WHEW! I responded that the partial electronic steering is a bit loose, but it shouldn't be THIS loose. I also let him (and the SAs) know that we had a modded JK that drove much better than this.

He asked to take it for a drive and of course I obliged. As he took his turn, he said that "there does seem to be something there."

We got back to the dealer and he suggested driving a JLR off the lot and I agreed. Not gonna lie, I was curious and a bit nervous as to how they would compare and was hoping that the one off the lot was "normal" and not have its own steering problem. I drove that JLR and it was significantly different. It had the slightest bit of play on center, but what you would expect from a solid axle Jeep. I told the foreman that there was a difference.

Soooooo...they have my Jeep and are going to see what they can do. I mentioned the new steering box.

My representative from the Jeep Waves program followed up and I let him know exactly what I expect to happen: new AE steering box, check the software version and update if needed, and check the torque on the components.

I've had good communication with the service advisor and am looking forward to hearing from him the beginning of next week.

I have a Chrysler 200 as my loaner. I miss my Jeep so much :)

That plus the Tazer is north of $2,600. Ouch.

I find it interesting that they recommend caster up to 7 degrees.
4-7 yeah, my guess is that since this makes it easier to turn the wheel the caster keeps you going straight and gives you a little more feedback.

After my buyback of my 2018 I got a 2019, yet it too has the steering wandering. I put my PSI on tires down to 30 and that didn't help. Are there model #'s on the track bar and the damper for folks who don't have this issue, we can use to get this issue addressed and fixed????

HERE IS YOUR FIX!
Exactly what I have been telling my dealer !!. I had damper and track bar replaced already
and it goes in for the now upgraded damper next week.
I think I will just email them and my FCA tech rep a link to this video.

Thanks for posting
