Would you mind measuring from the ground to the step? I am getting a 4xe Rubicon and am considering the LOD Destroyer to help my vertically challenged wife. (Of course, I’ll likely use them also.)
Yes, they are 19 3/8 inches to the top step from the ground. I am also on 35 inch tires, with no lift or other suspension mods. Being frame mounted and heavy, they offer some good side protection as well

Yes, that's for those who are planning to play in the rocks a lot.

It is Rock Slide Engineering's way of offering a step for most people that isn't overly built (heavy) and offering a solution for those that need both a HD slider and steps.

I wouldn't worry about the RSE skid plates for most trail duties, but if you're planning on hitting the Rubicon or other harder tails where you are thrashing the sliders, definitely get the skid plates.

That’s the direction RSE has provided for some time, so I ordered the additional armor just to be safe. When the boxes arrived I noticed I had Gen-3 steps, but Gen-2 armor, and the two are not compatible. Now Im sitting on the fence, as the Gen-3 steps are advertised as “40% stronger” than the Gen-2, so maybe the armor isn‘t necessary?

Between the washer & the head of the bolt
That’s the only way it works. I had to fully remove all six bolts, set them in a vice, and pound the crap out of them to create space between the washers and the bolt heads.

For those who choose to go the RSE route, I strongly suggest running all the wiring first. It’s also a good idea to drill out the non-threaded holes on the pinch seams, so the studs on the steps will slide in easily. I installed these steps myself by balancing the weight of the steps on a floor jack as I aligned the step studs with the holes. There was no way to make the steps fit without getting rid of the overlapping sheetmetal edges in the pinch seams. Once the holes were cleaned up and rust-proofed the studs slipped right in.

It really depends on the trails you're planning on doing. If you're going to be hitting the rocks a lot, I'd say get the additional armor for two reasons.

1) The extra layer adds more strength, sometimes it seems you can't have enough when it comes to rocks.

2) That outer layer will get scratched up and gouged pretty good. When it gets bad enough, you can pull it off, sand it down, repaint or repowdercoat it. Of course if it gets real bad, you could always replace it.
-Think of it as the sacrificial layer.

Hello, I am trying to install the rock sliders but the Spencer side is not fitting properly and is hitting some frame bracket. See pic
Any suggestions

You have to take that off but it’s for better crash protection 22’s & up

I just installed the RSE Rock Slide GEN 3 on my 2022 392 XR. There is a new bracket in the passenger side wheel well on 2022 392 that did not exist on the 2021 392. I did not remove the factory bracket but opted to cut a notch in the Rock Slider. Not a big deal just hit with some black rust spray paint. Otherwise, everything went together just fine. Thanks to other posts, I got past the body bolts by starting them and then screwing back in a 1/4 turn and doing all by hand . . . all body bolts must be done by hand. I didn't have a problem with the overlapping pinch seams but you will have to work them back and forth a little to get the steps started. Run the wiring harness first.

Also, I removed the logo plate to make them stealthy. Drilled out the rivets. Love Rock Slide but just didn't want the logo taking over the Jeep. I like that it blends in.

Thanks RubiTrux for the order support!

The little lady needs steps, so I ordered with build the Heavy-Duty Rock slider with step assist by Mopar.

Excuse the duck. Someone ducked on donut run.

these mopar ones with step assist - are they the ones that have the powered step that pops out? or is it all what you see there?

I’m a fan of the RSE steps too. The downside is no functional steps when the doors are off. I hadn’t thought about that. My doors are off a lot, so my 5’5” wife is back to climbing. I guess I need to carry a step stool.

The other issue is required maintenance. If you run the beaches, dunes, snow, or mud the steps catch and collect it all. You need to lower the steps and wash all of that out when you get home — and then properly lubricate/service the articulating joints/parts. If you don’t do that after a beach trip, you’ll end up with a bunch of wet, salt-laden, sand packed against your wiring, motors, and electric joints. That won’t turn out well.

Dropping the steps and hosing all that out is pretty easy when the doors are on. The routine is more work when the doors are off, which mine often are.

The sand in the picture below is what was left on the driveway after a 200 mile drive (and much of it running down-slope with the rinsing).

I installed Goat Fabrication sliders on my 392. They fit over the factory Rubicon sliders.

My wife went with the open one's like yours and I went with the ones with a plate. I really like them even though I have already dented one. They did there job.

I originally installed these Amazon specials. They were heavy, fit perfectly, went on over the OEM Rubicon rails, and worked as intended — but they didn’t provide a safe step for my wife to climb into the Jeep, so I replaced them with the RSE steps.

I had originally intended to buy very similar ones manufactured by a smaller outfit in Michigan. They were well reviewed and twice the cost, but I was ready to pay up until I was told “They should be ready to ship in 8 to 10 weeks.” I’m glad they’re busy, but I’m not waiting for 8 to 10 weeks when there are a dozen good alternatives I can have in a few days.

I’m a fan of the RSE steps too. The downside is no functional steps when the doors are off.
RSE makes a doors off switch kit that mounts on the side front of the seat track and taps in to the wiring to the door sensors. I installed it on mine when I put them on a month or so ago. Works when I tested it with the doors open (haven't taken them off yet since it is close to freezing most days), so should when they are off.
