My concern is that a majority of the wheels stick out past the fenders over 2-3" because most wheels have a big negative offset and it's the look i don't want. I don't want rocks flinging down the side of the Jeep cause they stick out so far. So I was looking for advice or pictures of people who didn't do the standard setup so commonly used on the JK's and what their experience was.
Ok so do you want your tires to rub on your inner fender and components at lock and articulation? If you dont mind that just put 35’s on yr stock wheels.. they dont really make 35’s any thinner lol.

This is the AEV booth with 35's and using their wheels with a higher offset and they are getting pretty good flex and tucking in nicely. And when sitting flat you can. See they don't stick out badly.

You sir are nothing short of a moron. Comprehension improvement should be on your list of self improvement. Let me help you.

The op doesn’t want the tires sticking out past the fenders more than necessary. Not everyone likes the ‘skateboard’ look. And.. getting the proper offset for the tire allows it it stuff perfectly without interfering with the inner fender and suspension components AND also staying tucked in the outer fender. Why are you talking like you can’t have both? You can. But apparently you don’t know what offsets fall into that range or you would have offered some details? Why are you talking about axle width? It has nothing to do with the question at hand.

And finally, why are you such a jerk by always either laughing at or putting people down for not having a rubicon? Is your self esteem really that low that it’s the only way to feed your starving ego? It’s no wonder that most of us can have good conversations on here yet not a dole wants to talk to you. Your such a dick. Hope your mom kicks you out of her basement soon.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
I've got 17x8.5 +10 ax194 ravine wheels
https://www.americanracing.com/wheel/12968/ax194-ravine
And 295/70/17 Milestar Patagonia tires
These will be going on a 2019 JL SportS 2 door.

Will have pics as soon as my Jeep arrives (still in Toledo rail yard)
Should have minimal poke at the fenders with clearance to the inside as well.

And FWIW the Sahara and Sports do have wider axles vs. the JK versions.

Tires "OUTSIDE" the front fenders DON'T THROW MORE ROCKS---------

It doesn't really matter how wide your tire is for ROCK THROWING--IT'S THE TREAD DESIGN !

All tires with M&S/MS/MT treads will throw grave/rocks and K02's are just about the WORST !!

THE GOVERNING REASON FOR THE ROCK THROW SYNDROME is controlled by the INSIDE 2" OF TREAD DESIGN and lower fender edge/sliders/mudflaps--

Well I ended up ordering the Dynatrac Enduro 2" lift kit and some 18x8.5" +18 offset rims with 35x12.5" milestar Patagonia's. Hoping for the lift to be here this coming week as they were on back order. If all goes well I'll have it all on before Christmas and be able to show off some pictures.

Just installed a 18 x 8.5" rim with 35x12.5" tires today. These wheels have a +18 offset. They tuck in the Sahara fenders nicely and I can go full lock with room for clearance. I think I'll be fine when going offroad. I installed the Dynatrac Endurosport lift kit. This is the exact look I was looking for when I started this thread. I'm really happy with it.

He probably just didn’t want rocks thrown st the side of the car or hinges, which would be my worry.

Ok so on my Sahara I installed XD822 Monster wheels 18x9 with a +18 offset and a 5.71 backspace with 35"x12.5" KO2's and a 2" spacer lift, as you can see everything is tucked nicely, however on level ground at full turn I have about 1" clearance.

I was not happy with the clearance I am installing next week a 3.5" Rancho Spring/shock lift, while I was looking at lift options I noticed that most if not all called for a max of 4.5 - 4.7" backspacing, obviously this is for flexing clearance.

It so happens I had a warranty issue with my current wheels and I was able to get Discount Tire to exchange for a different wheel, and I will be switching to the Fuel Assault 18x9 with a -12 offset and about 4.7 backspace, which Rancho said should be ok.

For what it is worth if I had it to do all over again I would not buy 18" wheels I would go to 17" as there are way more options, in fact you cannot even get bead locks in 18".

Below is the +18 (5.71 backspace) however I also installed a the Go Rhino D6 slider, boards as they will block most of the rock throwing.

Tire "OFFSET" numbers are pretty misleading, cause they are different with each WHEEL WIDTH--TRY TO STAY WITH BACKSPACE, it's always the same, no matter the wheel width !

My ProComp wheels are 16"x8"/w 4.5" BS and HANKOOK DYNAPRO 315/75rX16 WHEELS

I was originally looking at 9" wide wheels but you'd needed to go with a 0-10 offset but then it'd stick out pretty far. This is why I went with a 8.5" rim instead. I called AEV to talk to them about their new wheels. They're are all 8.5" with a +25 offset so they can sit almost OEM style with the fenders and still have clearance and able to flex out. I think a lot of company's are saying those 4.5 and 4.75" backspacing because they know they work as it's what the JK needed. But because our axles are wider that changes things. And not a ton of people have been researching the new needs and what they can use offset/backspacing wise. I'm hoping to be going offroading soon to see if I get any rubbing. So far so good full lock with turning and going on reverse. Fingers crossed I can flex out just fine and these offsets will work just fine.

Another perk of the high offset is that it keeps it tight to the tailgate. I was able to just go get some anti skid caps for stools and they insert directly into the factory bump stops. Fit in there perfectly. Round a $4 fix to tighten up the spare tire from moving. No need for the PVC or flex hose now.
