Looking for list of spares to have on hand after EMP or Carrington-like solar flare to fix 2018 JLU.

After some research, I have come to the conclusion that hardening the 2018 JLU to prevent damage from an EMP or major solar flare is impractical if not impossible. Best option seems to be have spares on hand in an EMP-proof container to replace the fried components. Don't need full functionality, just enough to get started. Any thoughts from those in the know?

Get any vehicle without a computer. Like a 1960s CJ. Other than that, you’re screwed. Well based on your scenario you only have a few days before civilization collapses and you’re screwed anyway

Agreed. No matter how this occurs, there is no winning this scenario. If you'd like to drive around for a day or two before society collapses, get an older mechanically controlled vehicle with a carb. Also, this isn't going to happen, and if it does, it won't matter what you have, you won't want to be driving around even if you could.

As others mentioned you would be wiser to go with a non computer mechanical vehicle or look into an EMP blanket for your Jeep instead of individual parts to replace.

Diesel....old school mechanical injected. Something like an old pre Super Duty Ford diesel pickup would be more practical. Or find a Hummer diesel military type, not the H2 H3 stuff. Diesel fuel can store longer too. Battery ignition gasoline engines have a capacitor and coil. Those might not survive a EMP.

There are just too many electrical/electronic components in a modern vehicle which interact with each other to guarantee you'll have a functioning vehicle after a EMP. How about the electronic controlled steering with software? Anti-skid brakes? Electronic contolled transmission, Electric lockers, and that wonderful push-button start system? How many vulnerable parts are in that starting system? Body computers that control things like lights and wipers and of course, the ECM for the engine and all the coils for the ignition.

This link has information that might help you decide on the list you seek. But unless you change your plan to use a simpler vehicle, it won't help with a list for your modern jeep.

Good article on the Humvee that mentions EMP.

To say it cannot happen is dumb.

To go full prepper and constantly live in fear of all these possibilities is also dumb.

A good middle ground is smart. I've thought a lot about EMP after reading the military's report to congress a while back. Like other posters said, your best bet is an older "bugout" rig, either diesel with mech. injection or a gas rig with points (or even HEI and just have spares on hand).

There is a reason most military electronics are hardened for EMP.
