Looking for input on going from 4.10 gear on a 2 door Rubicon MT to 4.88 with 35” tires.

2020 JLUR, Mopar 2”lift, ~35 Ko2s, 4.88 gears installed a month ago. Yesterday I had my first chance on the highway with them. 72mph, 2,500 rpms, medium load. Held 6th gear in cruise control effortlessly in all road conditions.

1st gear is a little lower, on flat and slight down hills you can easily start in 2nd.

In the past, I would have to downshift to 4th gear on highway inclines.

Very happy with 4.88s. I think benefits will be greater on 2door simply cause it’s lighter.

If you re-gear you won't regret it. If you don't you'll constantly be asking yourself if you should. Even with 4.10 gears the 3.6/manual doesn't handle larger tires very well at all. $4k is steep though. I'd shop around for a better price or do the re-gear yourself.

I owned two (almost) identical JLR, one with 4.10 and one with 4.88. I much prefer the 4.88. It is much better for me. The 4.10 JLR was worthless on the highway (exaggeration) with 6th gear all but unusable. The 4.88 JLR is much "peppier" and better off road. The one drawback is 1st gear is pretty short and I shift to second before making it across the intersection. I much prefer that though to having little power in 6th. In fact, I never really used 6th gear. Now, I shift from 4th to 6th often. 5th and 6th being so close, it's one or the other. I really wish Jeep would have spaced their gearing a little differently, especially 3rd - 6th.
Manual or AT?
