Went to The Forks, Maine this past week. TONS of logging roads and gravel and/or dirt roads everywhere! Took my stock JL out and was able to handle a lot of it. Would need a lift or bigger tires for some. Beautiful area, great views, wildlife spotting......can't go wrong.

Ran into a Jeeper a couple weeks back, and he mentioned something called the 'Bear Den' in CT. I have not been able to find a single thing on this- is it a real trail...?

The town we stayed in is The Forks Plantation, Maine. Northwestern Maine.

Getting one of these is handy when out of cell tower range. I was there today and no cell phone maps.

Ran into a Jeeper a couple weeks back, and he mentioned something called the 'Bear Den' in CT. I have not been able to find a single thing on this- is it a real trail...?

It's a state forest area. I'm not sure what the exact ethics are here on publicizing locations so I'll send you PM.

Some gates have been put up since I first explored that area 30 years ago back when avoiding mudding up roads logging was more lip service than actual enforced practice; one of the roads I already committed to before I realized my mistake was being actively logged and how I didn't get stuck in the 1000' long, 1' deep mud run I made in that unit I will never know. My young, dumb self was praying ferociously to Our Lady of Blessed Acceleration.

Last time I was through there quite a few roads are open to any stock 4x4 at least until you get to a gate. My guess is it's a mix of abandoned (unmaintained) but not closed town roads, and discontinued / state forest roads that are subject to gates.

I'm gonna get a new garmin 64s that links to your smart phone so you have the better Sat maps and larger screen of your phone.

I'll be out exploring today in the Sumner Maine area west of Worthley pond. Looks like there are many trails in the Black Mt and Speckle Mt area. I'll report back later. I have been in this area before but want to determine which trails are passable and possibly plan a day trip at a later date once if others are interested.
