Hi,
We just got a Rubicon Unlimited and are wondering what sort of options exist for carrying a couple gas cans on the outside without making big modifications.

The 3 gallon RotopaX connected to the spare tire seems like a good solution but I am hoping to bring more fuel than that.

We want to carry the spare tire on the spare tire rack.

I have seen a few solutions that assume you have a new bumper and heavy duty tire rack, or some brackets that bolt onto a body rack.

Is there any product that some how attaches to the Rubicon in a way that doesn't require you do other mods first?

Thank you.

Thereā€™s a company that makes rotopax mounts that attach to the hinges. I canā€™t recall the name right off hand.
Thank you for the info. I'd like to find out more about these and hope someone will be able to suggest the details in a subsequent thread. Thank you.

What about roof bars and metal strut linking the sides and the rotos up top.
Can't weigh that much?

Here's one that I thought about buying but didn't. I went with the one that straps to the spare tire instead.

I did forget to include the word "door" hinge. I found the link:

Basic shape, could easily plasma cut several of those for much less money.

I have one of those rear tire strap systems, they work pretty good. I mount my little 5# propane tank with it occasionally.

Thatā€™s really nice and simple but no way for $300. Wow. Thatā€™s insane. Take a $32 rotopax mount and $70 rotopax 2 gallon tank and build a $5 mount. I may build something similar before my trip.
