The mpg/fuel situation for the 392 is not ideal. I drive all over the country and to the middle of nowhere, so the range anxiety I got up in the mountains watching my gauge rapidly decrease was not fun.

I read a lot about extra fuel storage for the 392 and just did not like the idea of having to deal with an external tank. I really wanted the LRA but it appears they wonā€™t make one specific for the 392. However, I was fortunate to find a shop willing to do the custom exhaust work required to fit the standard tank to my 392.

Iā€™ve had it a few weeks now and can say I really like it. It does not hang down and works great. Being able to refill and not have conspicuous tanks on the outside is ideal for me. It cost way more than I would have liked to spend, but I plan on keeping the Jeep for a long time and this alleviates my main issue with it.

Any side shots that will show the clearance? Is it level with the bottom of the stock tank?

Itā€™s level with stock tank. Adds 17 gallons, so essentially whatever mileage you get prior, just more range. When you gas up, it overfills into the aux tank and you push a button on your dash to pump it over to the main tank. No idea on skids. The exhaust sounds the same as before, which I was worried about.

Congrats on solving the problem!

I've been following a local installer who's working this tank installation on a 392 and would like to do the same. Any information you might have to share about Y-pipe adapters, the size of the mid-section pipe, heat shields or anything else learned would be much appreciated.

Hoping I'm not far behind you šŸ‘

Fantastic.

Rerouting the exhaust is easy here, as I can just drop into a custom muffler shop and theyā€™ll customize the routeā€¦ But how bad was the price tag when the dust settled? (Iā€˜m bracing for impact.)

Mind sharing the shop that was able to do this for the members located in Florida?

I wanted to resurrect this thread. I'm considering getting a 392, but my biggest issue is the range. I don't want to mess with external fuel tanks for regular fill ups and this solution looks like the best way to go.

OP, any updates on how this solution is working? Can you give any more detail on the exhaust setup?
