The dealer can disable it. Mine was done when I had the tires calibrated for 35s and my tpms lowered. I don't have to push the button to turn it off it just is off. The button turns it on but by default it is off now.
Do you have any details (of any level) on how to disable it so we can convince our "lesser knowledgeable dealerships" (aka too lazy to research it, aka "well that's what I was told", etc.) that it can be done? Then they can have one of those "you learn something new every day" moments.

This post made me LOL....as we drove 500 miles home from the dealer my wife read the entire manual... and every so often Iā€™d get the ā€œhoney, my Subaru doesnā€™t do thatā€ and she would point out all the new features that neither of our JKā€™s had.. even though the auto start stop is a nuisance and yes I dont like it, in short order there will be plenty of programmers that will tune this beast into a well oiled machine... advice. Read the Manual.. you may miss where it says ā€œno cruise control for first 500 milesā€ :) Btw, thereā€™s a thread that says how to disable it permanently somewhere..

@JLWF Dealer Guy Can you confirm this?
My guy says he can do it. I was waiting till mine got in to do it as I didnā€™t want to screw someone elseā€™s Jeep up. Iā€™ll let you know when I get it and confirm with how itā€™s done.

I assume it was through the same programming tool they did the other stuff? I'll see if I can find out if that is the case. i also have a TazerJL on the way (shipped today) so I'll see what options it gives when I plug it in. Looking forward to not having the dealer do stuff that I should be able to do myself. I had them set the TPMS at 32psi but I realize I prefer the tires at 24psi...

The tazer needs to be plugged in all the time to disable ESS. It appears that your dealer has something that works permanently without being plugged in. That is the big difference here.

What in the world? This has to be a joke. Of all the threads on this forum, this by far is the best. Finally got to laugh at what I was reading instead of wondering where my ordered JLU was.

I picked up my JLUR last Friday and for the first 100 miles, the engine would shut off and restart with the brake pressed. I would be sitting there with the brake fully engaged and the engine would just kick back on. I was going to take it back to have it checked out, but it stopped behaving like that after a hundred miles or so.
You should really read the manual, especially the section that lists all the reasons the engine will start when automatically stopped by ESS.

I think the big sticker on the window explaining what ESS is should have been the first indicator.

In some defense, that sticker was nowhere to be found when I got mine off the lot. I knew what it was anyway, but just saying that maybe some dealers yank 'em. Even if they shouldn't.

Ah, it was there when I test drove, but not there after I bought it, difference of an hour of paperwork.

Right. I've seen the sticker on units still sitting on the lot, but during my actual test drive it had already been yanked. They definitely yank 'em during prep.

I know this is amusing for those of us who have been obsessing about this vehicle but his post is actually pretty reasonable if you don't know what ESS is. All he asked was if it is normal and how to turn it off.

And as it happened, the sales rep should have told him it was a normal function of the vehicle rather than allowing him to remain confused.

Hey knick33,

If this happens again in the future, would you mind sending us a direct message? Thanks!
