Maybe you should try cheering the gas up? Maybe compliment it or take it out for a nice dinner. Then it wouldn't be so depressed.

I have had this feature on my Q7. It is dependent on many different variables mostly associated with the HVAC. If you have the AC on, it normally will not activate at stoplights. There is also the requisite button to turn it off.

When my wife and I took the JL for a test drive, our sales person showed us a setting in the Uconnect that allows you to extended the timer for ESS to work. The sales person had me bump the setting from 45 second to 10 mins. This was at the end of the test drive so we were not able to test it. For most situations, this would solve the complaint of the engine turning off while waiting at a light.

This is why there are stickers on the driver side door glass that explains the ESS feature on every JL that leaves the factory now.
