if youā€™re doing it to save on fuel donā€™t. If youā€™re doing it because you love torque and big tires do it

I waited for 2 years to order mine and another 5 months for it to be built and delivered! It is a total beast on the trails! I wouldnā€™t hesitate to do it again!

more than worth it!

I've had a bunch of Jeeps and all different years and engines. I can say with confidence that this is by far the best engine that I've owned. The only thing I don't like is the 96mph limiter when this thing has so much more to give.

I love mine too. I could have owned this thing for 20 years and never have known there was a 96 mph limiter :CWL:

Just got back Monday from a week long trip from LA to Denver and back to visit my GF's parents over fathers day with mine and it was a blast to drive the whole way. Cruses nicely between 75-78 and absolutely loves climbing hills at those speeds with minimum downshifting so it's pretty much perfect as a road trip vehicle. On the way out to Denver we camped twice (first night in Manti-La Sal and the second night in McInnis Canyons to get some hiking in) and had about a 5-10 mph tailwind most of the way so I cruised at 78 while averaging 31mpg, however on the way back it was a 16 hour straight shot from Denver to LA and I was only able to maintain 75 comfortably while getting 25mpg since there was a steady 15-20mph headwind pretty much the whole way. Total cost of gas was only $220 and I still had 1/2 a tank left after filling up in Nevada.

I was only able to put about 15 miles of trail under it getting to campsites on the way out but aside from it being noticeably heavier in soft sand trails than anything else I've driven off road there wasn't any issue with that either.

Here are some of the pictures i took at both areas we camped at.

If those two options were what I had to pick from, then yes, the diesel would be WELL worth it. :)

Seriously though, the new Gen 3 EcoDiesel is a nice powertrain. However, if you aren't planning to tow a trailer or make really long interstate trips, then I do not think it's worth it. Any fuel savings you see will be eaten up by maintenance costs immediately. And then there's the lag and occasional dead pedal issue. And diesel is only sold at 51% of stations per AAA. I could go on and on but the bottom line is you have to make several sacrifices to go diesel, and that's fine if you USE the diesel. But if you're just driving around town, or driving back/forth to work, then it's not worth it.

5000 miles on mine. Use-case is key as has been stated. Mine makes a ton of sense...I just paid $0.25/gallon less than 87 octane, I live in a place where fuel range is occasionally the single most important metric, I run 37s at 24mpg, and I use low-end torque off-road regularly. YMMV.

I Seriously doubt anyone would have bought a diesel Wrangler if they didnā€™t think it was ā€˜worth itā€™ to them.
Whether it would be worth it to you is something only you can determine.

OP I'm in the same boat as you. Will either order a Willys diesel or Willys or Rubicon 2.0. Who knows when the diesel orders will start again.

I waited for a long time for the ecodiesel. I drive 108 miles a day and go from sea level to 6,000 feet everyday. 90% freeway. The diesel makes sense for me. I plan eventually to upsize the tires and lift it. With the diesel regearing isn't necessary. Bottom line is get what makes you happy. Life is a temporary thing and no one gets out alive so enjoy what you can. I have 5k on the Rubicon and every time I drive it, I have a smile on my face.

Just got my 2020 Rubicon Diesel. LOVE IT!! I had 2 JKs with the pentastar, I'd never buy a non-diesel Wrangler again. I live in Denver so I'll be taking mine off-road. Just picked it up a week ago so I haven't yet.

Just to be clear, you weren't looking for an opposing point of view when you posted in the Diesel section of this forum, were you? :)

You'll get honest assessment, but I'd be surprised if anyone points you at a 2.0T.
