I understand that. Last couple of winters I might have seen 2-3 snow days so wasn’t real worry about it. And I know it will still go better than my other vehicles. Looks great. Are you happy with the size of them? I’m so afraid the tires won’t be big enough for my liking. But I love those wheels and don’t want to spend the cash on a lift and new wheels as of now.
I like the height of them. I do wish they were a little wider....but I think the 275/70 looks better than the 285/65.

Wife likes these wheels as well, so there was no changing them, and she doesn't want a lift (vertically challenged), so my options were kinda limited.

275/65R18 Perelli Scorpoin AT+ I noticed a little bit of rubbing when I disconnected the sway bar and I had the steering wheel turned all the way, but otherwise they run great. This is the widest 32" tire for the stock Sarara wheel, but you can go a little wider if you go up in diameter.

I just finished reading through this entire thread, and while it is indeed a good thread chocked full of great info and sweet pictures, it has its share of conflicting information... which is unfortunate as anyone looking to add bigger tires to their stock sahara will get several different opinions on the "facts."

To summarize the general consensus of the entire thread, a bone stock Sahara with no lift, no spacers, no offset modification and stock Sahara 18" rims will get by with no rubbing on 275/70/R18 tires (33.2" diameter) guaranteed, no question.

There are some people that report that 285/70/R18 (33.7" diameter tires) and 285/75/R18 (34.8" diameter tires) will not rub on a bone stock Sahara with no lift, no spacers, no offset modification and stock Sahara 18" rims but these are much more isolated findings. Some other people in the thread say that anything over a 275/70/R18 is a no go.

Can anyone confirm that a stock sahara can accommodate a 285/75/R18 or 285/70/R18 tire without issue? I am having trouble imagining it would be possible without a spacer or offset mod given how much bigger and wider that tire size would be.

Sorry - i am an idiot @RDiddy . I have 285/70/r17 going on, not 18s. an 1" smaller than the 285/70/r18, so not going to be a great comparison for you.

All good, thanks for the update.

All is not lost, here is a question for you then as I am kind of a donkey at this stuff:

If the width of the tire stays the same (285) as well as the aspect ratio (70) but the rim loses 1 inch in size, is the diameter of the tire not the same if just the rim size changes? or am not seeing something glaringly obvious?

A 285/70r17 is a 32.8 diameter tire. A 285/70r18 tire is a 33.7 diameter tire.

Different make of tire might vary a bit in diameter.

Can I trouble you to elaborate on how rim size being smaller changes the overall diameter of the tire? Trying to comprehend if they are both a 285 mm wide tire with a 70% sidewall, would they not both be a 33.7" diameter?

@RDiddy the aspect ratio is of the width. Here is how the numbers shake out. This helped me a lot when I was trying to figure this out as well.

width = 285mm. We need to Convert it to inches to make this forumla work (1mm = .0394inches). 285mm converted to inches = 11.22

70% of 11.22 = 7.854, this is the sidewall of the tire. Multiply by 2, bc you have sidewall above and below the rim = 15.708.

Now, for a 17 inch rim add 17 = 32.7
For an 18 inch rim add 18 = 33.7
Formula:

((Width in mm * .0394) * aspect ratio % )*2)+ wheel Diameter = tire height

there are tons of websites that will do this math for you so you don’t have to. Or you can make a google doc and set up for the formulas yourself for the tire sizes that you are considering so that you can see them all side by side. That’s what I did and it was really helpful for me when making my decision.

Yeah I initially played around with those tire size calculators, and saw that rim size changed overall tire diameter but couldn't visualize it because they don't show you the math, they just spit out the answer.

I can see how it works in your math, so thank you for the help sir, I appreciate your time.

Still wondering if anyone out there can confirm that a 285/75/R18 or 285/70/R18 tire would fit on a sahara with no lift or spacers on the stock rims? Thanks

Man it's tough out here to find a local set of stock sahara rims. I wanted to pick up a second set so I can put winter tires on them. Found a guy selling a set of stock sahara 18" with dueler AT tires on em for $1600 (!!). Asked him if he'd just sell the rims, this is what I got back:
