After reading all the comments and options and opinions...I am going with KO2 275/70-18 Stock Sahara rims and no lift. Many people have posted that they are running this size and it works fine. I went back and fourth on the 275/70 vs 285/65. I like the 285 for width and look. but it is almost the exact same height as the stock Sahara. So I am going with the 275/70 because, in my mind, a taller tire will give it a better look. They will be installed in a week or so, but here are a couple tire comparison pics.

Surprised what a difference it makes going to the TA’s from the stock.
I may have to go that route at some point.

Looks to be a good choice.

I keep forgetting that for a given width/aspect ratio the 18" tire is a full inch taller than a 17" tire. It's a duh, but if you are used to 17" math...

That shows as a 33.2" tire on rimsntires though there can be variation. Did you consider a 285/70R18 - 33.7" - or does that cause interference without wheel spacers of lift per you intended use?

If your question was meant for me...then here is my answer. I like the BFGoodrich KO2 tires. For an 18" rim, they only had 275/70 or 285/65. I believe other tire brands have a 285/70, but not the KO2. Not to say other tires are not good...I just like the KO2. Even if the KO2 came in a 285/70, it might be hard to squeeze them in without a lift. Since I am not doing a lift, I felt safe going with the 275/70 (33.2") tire.

Well, I programmed the tire size to 33.2” and hit the highway for the first time since the swap. Seemed stuck in 7th gear @ approx 2100 rpm while driving 70. It would rarely go into 8th and drop the RPM.

There was heavy (20+mph) direct headwinds at one point, but dropped to 5mph near the end.

Anyome else running the 275/70/18 KO2 tires able to tell me what sort of rpm range and fuel consumption you’re seeing? I would have expected, maybe, staying in 7th more, but with the RPMs down around 1600 or so.

@MeanMrWolf I cannot vouch from ownership (yet) experience or knowledge as to how all the puters in the JL work, but I did run across this post like below while researching some stuff.

I'm still trying to rationalize this. There is another post somewhere about pulling a fuse so that the trans will reset to default shifting strategy and begin it's learning anew. Maybe that speeds things up. I just dunno.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how the relearn actually works because I have to think that tire size (and gearing) will affect how you drive the JL thus has to at least indirectly affect the relearn. I think I'll just ask zautomotive to explain.

Anyone fit 275/70R 18's to these factory wheels without lift or spacers? Any rubbing with wheels fully turned?

dumb question here-

How much, if at all, will a JL Sahara lift by coincidence if I only change the wheels and tires?
(17x9 Icon rebound wheel)

Im wondering if the thickness of a new tire (such as toyo/patagonia) will lift the jeep, as compared to the thinner stock tire...

also must take into account that the wheel diameter would be going from a stock 18 inch to 17 inch...so thats a 1 inch loss right there.

i assume the loss of the wheel diameter and gain of the tire thickness will keep the jeep at the same height?

You calculate the diameter of the new tire and old tire (if you don't know how to do that, use either an online calculator or look up manufacture's specs), the difference between the two and divide by 2 will be your additional lifted height.

Here is a great tool to compare two tires. This will show you many different measurements of one size tire as compared to another size tire.

Note: I used a level and tape measure. When inflated to 34PSI cold, my 275/70/18 KO2s measure 32.5" in diameter. Almost a full 3/4" shorter than the 33.2" tiresize.com says they are.

Just picked up my Sahara with the new KO2s installed. I got the stock rims powder coated...because I like black rims. I stayed with the stock rims because I know myself. If I got different rims, then I would hove bought wider ones. If they are wider, then I can get a 35 or 37 inch tire. If I did that, then I would need a lift...and so on and so on. So staying with the stock rims limits what tire I could buy...and also saves my bank account.

I was going to go 275/70 but I couldn’t pass up a local set of Rubicon take offs. So I wrapped them with 295/70.
