Are these pretty close to being the same tire? Both are load range C. Are the 35x12.5 a little wider?

Thanks
Bobby

Answered my own question. One is a 15. I have 20 browser tabs open and have been looking at way too many tires today. Time to walk away for awhile.

Disregarding the wheel size, the 315/70 is an inch narrower and shorter than the 35x12.5. A lot of tire shops claim the difference is just the width, but it ain't. The 315/70 is essentially a 34" tire. Given the fact that virtually all BFG tires are shorter than their rated size, the 315 will be closer to 33" and the 35x12.5 closer to 34" when mounted.

Not According to BFG..... the 35x12.5 is showing as 34.5" overall dia and the metric tire as 34.4" - so virtually the same. BFG lists the metric tire as .4" WIDER in tread width and .2" wider in section width.

Yeah, well, there's what BFG says and then there's reality. I'm running 35" KO2s on my JL and they are NOT 34.5" tall. They weren't that tall on my JK, either, nor were the KM2s on my JK before that.

BFG measures them without being mounted and without a load on them. So naturally, you'll get a different measurement when on your Jeep with weight on them. Most manufacturers measure them that way.

They are very close in weight, IIRC.

There are only a couple tires that measure true to their height. Most company’s don’t measure them mounted with a load on them.

If you want to know what your tire will measure mounted on the Jeep, you need to know what the revolutions per mile are for the tire. Then you can use this calculator:

5280 / RPM x 12 / 3.14 = tire height

Example BFG KO2 35-12.50-17

5280/602x12/3.14=33.50

BFG KO2 315/70/17

5280/604x12/3.14=33.40

I have found my Nittos to run wide,BF goodrich small overall, and duratracs run a smidge tall in my experience. Im sure YMMV.
