i know there are few posts out there but this is more of a call to action than anything else. This is the second time I’ve taken my JLR for the same issue but they finally got an answer from Jeep. I now have a STAR service issue logged or whatever they call it. The knocking is due to the pre-detonation as posted in another thread. The issue is the carbon build up due to the lean chip setting. The dealership literally had to put the cleaner in the engine, run it till it was hot turn the motor off and wait 20 minutes before restarting the motor. It looked like a diesel blowing smoke. This will be a HUGE issue for Jeep because in order to fix the pinging, they will need to reflash the chips. This will ultimately lower their ability to say Wrangler fuel economy has improved. Then there is the issue of submitting changes to the EPA followed by changes in all emissions centers around the country. The more cases or STAR “Logged complaints” the further it will push Jeep to take action. Dealerships telling you otherwise are full of sh#t.

So was this issue ever fixed? Mine knocks on acceleration when it’s cold and goes away once warm. It’s not a loud knock but noticeable and very uniform with rpm. No randomness about it. This along with the low key knock at idle
