Yeah that’s bullshit. Definitely find a different dealer. Maybe try to find a mod friendly dealer that is worth driving to. I found one an hour and a half away. not one question about my mods and I’ve had multiple issues addressed under warranty. (Rear diff, steering box,Uconnect reprogram, fad)

Too far but thanks. However it wasn’t just dealer, corporate wouldn’t let them do anything. I spoke with corporate directly and the guy kept saying you modify then it’s not covered.

Here's my update with the situation. BLUF: The issue has been fixed.

Long version: I started getting the light rotational clicking noise after about 6,000 miles. It was noticeable when the vehicle was coasting at around 20 to 40 MPH, forward and reverse, but not when faster or during acceleration. I couldn't pinpoint the exact location, but it was definitely coming from rear of the vehicle. My JL did have larger tires (35"s), but I did hear from someone that the differentials on the JLs are good to go up to 37"s.

After a few hundred miles, it has progressed to a more noticeable tapping noise which could be felt through the floorboard. I searched online and found several people having issue with the M220 rear axle with LSD equipped, which is what I also have.

I made an appointment with my dealership and then posted the issue here, and Ms. Lydia from Jeep Cares contacted me and assigned me a case number and specialist after I provided her with some info. When I brought the vehicle to the dealership, the gentleman who I test drove it with instantly noticed the noise, and it was accepted for service. I was provided a rental the same day and went back to what I was doing. Later that day, I was contacted by the dealership saying that the rear differential assembly and pinion bearing need to be replaced. The next day, I received a call from Ms. Emily with Jeep Cares, who relayed the same message. I asked her if the issue is wide spread, to which she didn't have an answer, but did tell me that she'd get back to me about it.

A few days went by and the dealer contacted me again, saying that the repairs will be done and vehicle ready for pickup the next week. Then I got another call from Ms. Emily updating me with a little more information regarding the failed parts. Another couple of days went by and I received a call from the dealership saying that the repair was finished and vehicle ready for pickup, three days ahead of schedule. I hurried over to the dealership and picked it up and took it for a test drive, and the noise was completely gone. Ms. Emily followed up a few days later with another phone call inquiring about the service, and told me that she was in the process of dealing with another case with the exact same issue I had, which was mentioned in the meeting.

I put about 1,000 miles on it since, and the noise hasn't come back. I'm hoping that it never will, but time will tell. In any case, Lydia and Emily at Jeep Cares, as well as the folks at the service center, did great job getting me back with my Jeep, and I give them thumbs up!

Here's to me hoping that the rest of you will have smooth experience with the process as I did.

Well you can add me to the list of people having some type of rotational knocking. We have 11949 miles on our 18 Sahara JL Jeep. Friday while driving in town I let off the gas and noticed a rotational knocking. Actually at first, we thought there was something stuck in one of the tires. Pulled over and checked all the tires, but couldn’t find anything wrong. Took off again and everything was normal. Later in the day it did exactly the same thing when I slowed down for a red light. It reminds me of having something stuck in a tire, and I can’t really tell if it’s coming from the front end or the rear end. And, when it does it it’s not something that last very long.

Drove it all day Saturday without any issues. Sunday we went up in the mountains and it happened twice. Only happens when I let off the gas between 15 & 40 and even then it may not do it again all day. Drove my Jeep probably 60-70 miles today and it didn’t do it till I was almost home.

This is not something that I’m going to be looking forward to dealing with my dealership on. Sounds like it may be one of those “we can’t reproduce the issue”, and that’s really going to get old rather quickly. Looks like I’ll have to get in touch with our dealership later this week to see what they can figure out.

@JeepCares this whole process is getting out of hand, I took in my 2018 Jeep into the dealership just as many have done before with the same rotational knocking noise. The dealership has been helpful but the has fallen short of getting any replacement parts in a timely manner. They want to start with replacing the axle shaft and drive shafts and every time anyone checks when the parts are going to be shipped they are being pushed out more and more. With the number of people that have had this issue Jeep should of corrected this or at least made the replacement parts available in a timely manner!!

Need someone closer to NJ but thanks. Most dealers don’t have a clue and blame it on aftermarket wheels when it’s definitely lsd and or gears in Sahara

I know I'm kinda late to this thread, but wondering if anyone has heard the knocking with stock size tires and no lift. My dealer wants me to put my stock wheels and tires back on and then they will re-evaluate. I still can't believe Jeep would produce a vehicle that can't withstand a minor wheel and tire upgrade. I will do as they wish, glad I kept my stock wheels and tires. I went from 255/70/18 to 285/70/17 about 1/2 in taller and inch or so wider.
The dealer I bought the Jeep from said the same thing. The noise gets considerably quieter with stock wheels on it. Then my dealer said it was because of the 33's I put on and washed their hands of it. So,
I opened a case with FCA and took it to another dealer. Within 3 days they diagnosed the problem (rear spider gears) and ordered new parts. Picked it up this morning and everything is working (fingers crossed).

UPDATE:
I've had a knocking noise coming from my JL 2 Door for about 6 months now.
The dealership I bought it from (Carl Burger in San Diego) at first said it was lug nuts in the trunk. Then they told me all Jeeps make that noise, THEN, they replaced the rear axle. On the 4th trip they told me it was because I had over-sized tires on it (33's) and charged me 2 days for the rental vehicle. Then they washed their hands of it.
So, I set up a case with FCA and took it to another dealer (Perry in National City). Within 3 days they had diagnosed the issue (Rear Spider Gears) and ordered the parts. There was a delay in getting the parts as they were on backorder but I picked it up this morning and problem solved (fingers crossed)
I couldn't be happier with the way the dealer handled the situation. They admitted on a test drive that the noise wasn't normal, took ownership of the problem and fixed it.

It's tougher to hear when you are driving around. It definitely starts as a faint noise and progressively gets worse with time. At least this was my experience. Hopefully your Jeep is not affected. It's a huge inconvenience to deal with. Especially when the dealer is not "on your side". Thankfully Jeep Cares stepped up, worked with the dealer, and the dealer changed their tone.
I might be having the same issue. Also located in Las Vegas. Which dealer did you have it fixed at?

Hi CanAmMick,

Sorry to hear of the trouble you are experiencing. We would be more than happy to escalate a case on your behalf so that a Case Specialist can work with your dealer to find a potential solution. Please follow up with us via private message if this would be of interest.
