Starting a thread to document mods to my new 2020 JLU Granite Crystal Recon "Pebbles”. I am not much of a gear head, so starting with a few easy security and camping mods that will be useful for some upcoming travel and in daily driving...

Springtail Solutions tailgate table is up first. After a bit of research on different tables I ended up here as I wanted the Molle panel on the back.

This was an easy install taking about an hour and half.

I am very happy with it. No rattling while driving, a usable work surface while camping and some much needed extra storage for first aid kit and cooking supplies.

Next up, Diabolical Slipstream security enclosure for JLU soft top. I did a fair amount of research and this seemed to be the best option out of the few I was able to find. The main criteria were:
  • Secure items in the vehicle when the soft top is down, doors off (this is a soft top only vehicle)
  • Maximize the amount of space available in the cargo area
  • Flexibility to open the top to fit larger items
  • Flexibility to remove top and back and have the full open space inside the vehicle with the rear seats folded down

Parts all laid out... they arrived very well packed...

First step was to remove the folding, carpeted flap behind the rear seats as the seat bolts are on both outside edges are utilized during the install...

The first of the seat bolts used on the passenger side...

Easily to follow instructions as the various sections went together...

Some of the spaces were pretty tight for chubby fingers to get the nylon nuts in place...

There is a small access door that you can unlock to get underneath the rear portion with the seat folded down if needed. Personally I don't see myself using this much, but you never know...

Overall pretty happy with how it turned out. First vehicle I have ever had where I was happy to install my own trunk! :like:

I have some t-handles on order. The kit does not come with them and since I got the JLU with a factory soft top I did not have them either. This will provide some additional tie down points above and beyond those integrated into the rails alongside the hinged top panels. I will probably install some cargo netting behind the rear seats and some anti slip material on top so that I can stack up containers for additional storage on the top for longer overlanding trips.

The top section on the unit fits under the lip of the tailgate so as long as the tailgate is locked the top cannot be accessed unless you were very determined and had the appropriate tools. I see this more as a way to prevent the casual passerby from snatching something just because it is visible.

Some interior stuff: Rugged Ridge paracord grab handles, Mopar rubber floor mats, Tuffy center console security box, Auovo cup holder coasters, Tazer Mini JL.

Knocking a few odds and ends off the checklist...

Had to flip these in order for the install to work on all 4 with the soft top mounting points over the rear doors.

The carpets were full of sand on day 1 so I knew they had to go right away. Had Weathertech mats in a previous vehicle but decided to try the Mopar ones here for the drain holes and red Jeep logo.

Not much to show on this install as it was pretty simple. You lose a bit of space but I like having the option to more securely store some protection as needed if not carrying concealed.

Why not? :)

The Tazer was relatively easy to install and get setup. You need to be a bit of a contortionist to get up under the dash. I did not need to take off the piece under the steering wheel as I have seen some others do. Primarily wanted this to disable ESS, set the TPMS warning level and get the correct splash screen on the dash! Seems like a silly thing, but how does a vehicle this expense arrive from the dealer with the wrong splash screen?

I may end up adding a forward facing camera prior to next year's trip out west as well.

67 Designs phone and GoPro mounts next up. Quick and simple install. I'll be extending the USB connections up to the mounts at some point.

Warn Zeon 10s with Warn winch plate and Factor 55 flat link...

This turned out to be a bit more difficult then planned. The excellent step by step thread here from a few years back was very helpful. Unfortunately, I didn’t read to the end to see the recommendation to pull off the grill first. This helped immensely in getting the inner nuts back on the bumper to frame bolts, with the help of a small socket extension. I did have to notch the rear holes in the OEM skid plate to get it back on as many others also indicated in the install thread.

I am happy with the end result, just took a lot longer than expected.

Not a mod per say, but picked up a Rain Gear half cover. Nice fit, seems pretty high quality. I like that I can put it on with the soft top up or down, and it covers all the way to the bottom of the door frames.

Living in Florida the doors have been off more than on, so need a quick way to protect against the occasional down pour.

Installed the Exposed Racks bars and clip in kayak and paddle holders today. The stock bolts are replaced with longer bolts to which the bars are mounted. I am a little concerned with how close the soft top is to the front bar. We’ll see...

I love the customizations you have going on it. If you don't mind can you post a link for the half cover you found?
