“Full time 4WD” in this context means 4WD Auto, or 4A, which you can select and leave the Bronco in no matter the road conditions. 2WD is still an option though if you want it. This is a great system to have if they can make it durable but it does introduce its own long-term reliability challenges. Jeeps have an equivalent transfer case as well with 2WD, 4HI, 4LO, and 4A.

Yeah, good question!

Sure that wasn’t a Bronco Sport? I see those all the time now. They seem to be doing well for Ford.
I think it said big bend on the side.

Bronco Sport has Big Bend trim level as well. This Bronco branding is a nightmare.

They do it with Transit, Transit Connect and the Mustang, Mustang Mach e. Maybe others.

I remember the gnashing of teeth when front hubs disappeared, and it hasn't turned out to be a major issue over time.

However I still want a mechanical e-brake lever and preferably a mechanical transfer case as well.

I don't know if they still do this, but I remember car rental agencies in Hawaii disabling 4WD on their rental Wranglers by disconnecting the transfer case shift cables.
I still gnash. lol. Tell it to the guys replacing unit bearings vs, a stronger hub design. Yeah greasing it sucks, but it's stronger and easier to dick with.

Personally I can't wait for a hub conversion kit to come out..along with a full float rear kit.

But Sport sounds like a trim level, not a different vehicle. And they released the Bronco Sport first, so that establishes the brand. That's the opposite of what they did with those other models. There they established the brand first and then expanded it.

Who knows? They sell plenty of everything none the less.
How many people have said on these threads that they saw the new Bronco and they are not interested? What they really saw was the Bronco Sport. And those are enthusiasts. A good portion of the general public will just write the Bronco off as a smallish CUV and move on.

Maybe I am wrong. Range Rover does something similar. Its confusing as hell to me but maybe people figure it out?

And yes they will sell a lot of Bronco Sports. I think they will ultimately sell more of them than Broncos.

Yup. The fact that Bronco Sport is (a) cheaper and (b) car-based —i.e., more fuel and space efficient, more comfortable, easier to drive— suggest Sport will handily outsell the big Bronco.

Ford needs the big Bronco to cast its off-road “halo” over the Sport so people buy the smaller CUV in droves.

It’s no different from how Jeep uses Wrangler to sell Renegades, Compass, Cherokees and Grand Cherokees.

A key difference, though, is that Renegade and Compass are mediocre. By all accounts, Ford did its homework with Sport. We will have to see if future CUVs launched under the “Bronco” sub-brand are as well executed as Sport was. Brands usually run out of zeal and funds as more models are added.

Agreed. I would buy the Bronco Sport before the Jeep offerings. It is very good for what it is.

I can't believe those interior pics will make it to production. I had a 99 escort with nicer looking plastic and buttons than that abomination.

Don’t worry about Ford. They will sell every full sized Bronco they can make for at least a few years. And all the folks ditching their Bronco reservations because they don’t want to wait will be replaced by lots of folks coming off lease or selling their other car. There is a constant churn of people leaving one car and moving to another and it doesn’t stop because 1,000 people thought better of it today. And think of all the folks looking for a Sport who will see a big Bronco in the showroom and want to buy it.
Add to this the strategy that Jeep does by offering new paint colors, special editions, etc…
And then the Warthog. By any other name a car desired by many already.
Ford is going whip this pony for every dollar possible and don’t forget it.
A sale lost today is a sale they couldn’t make anyway because there is no vehicle. Ford can take care of itself.
They have the #1 vehicle in sales in the F series and they will eventually kick this Bronco thing into shape.

May sales are out: Ford sales continue to suck!

Ford sales were up a paltry 3.6%. Toyota sales were up 46%; Toyota dealers have literally little sitting in inventory. Hyundai-Kia were up 50%; Mazda +51%; Honda +40%; Subaru +30%. FCA and GM don’t report monthly sales.

Ford has lost almost 2 whole points of market share in the first 5 months of this year. That is a lot. Ford is blaming chip shortages. However, chip shortages affect every automaker. I think there’s something not firing on all cylinders at Ford.

The chip shortage is an enormous factor. Ford has thousands upon thousands of complete F-150’s sitting around just waiting on chips.

True, but nowhere near to the same degree automaker to automaker. Devil's in the details, as usual.
